Know the feeling so well. We have had cats for 40 + years & all have been spoilt and enjoyed good long life's such your Cookie. Maybe time to look out for another.

So sorry for the loss. I know how it feels. Lost a cat in April last year . He has been around for 20 years. My ex had him the last  years so hadn't that much contact.  But i feel sad every time i think about him . 23 years is a respectful  age for a cat.

Sorry to hear that OH.

It's been a couple of years since I lost my last cat and like you. She adopted me as a kitten, I still miss her terribly and can't yet get another because of that.

My sympathies.

Oh how awful; you have my condolences.  The only time I don't have a cat is when I'm grieving over the last one.  I had my first cat from age 10 to 29- absolutely my best friend in the whole world and I was devastated when she passed away.  None who came after could replace her but they always did the job well enough. Just having one in the room is enough to suck the stress and tension from the air.

I'll give "Chooch" a little extra gourmet kitty food tonight in honor of Cookie.

I recall losing my cat over a decade ago.  My condolences to you.  It was like losing a human family member.  Dear old Rudy.  She was 16, I adopted her from the animal shelter only 5 years before.  Never thought I could become so attached to a cat.  Loved her like family.   Half Persian, half Himalayan.  Beautiful animal.  Cracked open a can of tuna and she left skid marks on the carpet running to the kitchen.  Stuck her nose up to chunk light.  She had albacore or nothing.  My wife called her Queen Rudy.

Time heals.  Prayers are with you.

So sorry to hear this, I understand your pain, though 23 years is a very good age for a cat.

We've had a succession of cats over the last 50 years and always painful when they go, they are part of the family..

Our current 'moggie' is a rescue that we have had for just over two years, she was found abandoned, as a kitten in woodland, locked in a pet carrier, suitably sized for a Guinea pig! Don't know how long she had been there but was in a very sorry state. She was not well enough, for over two months, for us to take her home, from the Veterinary hospital where she had been taken by the dog walker that found her.

Looking much better now:)

I had the chilling thought the other day that as I'm now 72, this one might well live longer than me!
