    Humorous ebay listing

I came across this listing on the bay. I thought it was a refreshing change. I do hope it does not contravene any forum rules. Hudson Dynamic jump hour

Most watchmakers will not work on a pin lever because although they are simple in construction, they can be challenging to assemble because of the inexpensive method of construction. Before I learned how to do complete overhauls myself, I asked (via email) a well known watchmaker on the east coast if he would overhaul my 17 jewel Sicura jump hour. "That's not the kind of watch I'd want to work on..." was the reply. Watch-bias and snobbery can be pervasive in some circles. J

    Hudson Dynamic jump hour

I ordered two Cousins mainsprings for a Landeron and both broke after a few hours. When I tried getting a refund, they refused because the mainsprings were from some other supplier and they could not return them....and so I would have to take the loss, not them. That was the last order I made to Cousins. Ok for next time, place one side of a thin brass tweezers between the barrel edge and the lid to keep that spring down, then open it. I have more barrels and lids if you need one...and I might have springs too. Have to check. J

    Watch of Today

That rodeo is the squarest square watch squatch? I have ever seen.

    Watch of Today

Now that is a watch you could be seen out in public with. I think I might have to cover the "Rodeo" in duck tape if I went in to any of the pubs round here with it.

    Watch of Today

Today I barely managed to resist the urge to don my ten gallon hat and chaps and head off to the pub with no beer. The "Rodeo" is getting a ride round the range on my wrist today. It is actually pretty well behaved in terms of keeping time. That mystery 17 jewel french movement performs about -10 to +15 s/day hovering near 0.3 ms and managing a fairly healthy 287 degrees of swing at 21600bph. The bizarre transparent burgundy case sometimes makes it appear that the crown is backlit by an LED. A strange but interesting addition to the 404 club collection.

As Nucejoe says roughen up the barrel walls, I would use a fine wet/dry paper used with a bit of oil probably finer than 120 grit, maybe 240 just to take the polish off the walls

    Watch of Today

Wow. You need your Raybans with that thing. Watch out for low flying aircraft mistaking it for the runway lights. Impressive lume.

Oh yeah, no mistaking the markers and hands on this one. Even in the dark.

    Thanks GregC

I look at this as an adjunct hobby.Truthfully we put a lot of work into these watches. To do what? Put some chee pass Wal-Mart strap on them? Even the old vostok in the photo deserves better than that! Why not make a strap tailored to your wrist and taste? It's not hard and it befits the time piece.

    About: Me

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. Best advice is start slow, get the best tools you can afford and enjoy. Its a complicated frustrating time consuming hobby but it gives rewards when a barn find pocket watch turns from a dull tarnished pile of cogs into a bright shiny gold encased mechanical wonder

    Fake Military Watches?

It’s a pretty crude movement too. I doubt it would have made the grade for any military procurement.
