  1. I thought I would post this vid. It is a vid promoting Seiko but it is also excellent in showing how a mechanical watch works. Well worth watching.

  3. My advice would be to report it back to Cousins. I have complained to them once before when they sent crowns of the wrong diameter... they checked their stock, confirmed the error, sent replacements and told me to keep the first ones they sent. The point here is that you would also be helping someone else to avoid the same grief if this is a batch issue. If you don’t get good support and you want a good chance of getting a replacement without the same problem then you may be better off trying another supplier like Gleaves.

  4. Definitely cannon pinion problems. Been there as well.

  5. A picture of your die plate would help. If one of those cheap Indian ones, they just look like but are not really tools. Frank

  6. The watch may be authentic vintage but the dial is reprinted. Bulgarian sellers have found that is appealing to the naive buyer so the place all kinds of cheesy images like Che Guevara playing darts with Fidel. There is no IP violation or counterfeiting, so you can complain as much as you want but Ebay will not remove listing.

  7. Very nice, for jobs like this if you document all the steps and present them in a single topic, we have a dedicated section called walk-throughs.

  8. So I finally got the case and finished this one off. I had to re-blue the minute and seconds hands but I think it all came out really well.

  9. Thanks rogert63 for your very quick reply. The background reading I have done so far mentions things like, avoid the ones that look like a toilet and its only any good if it will perforate a foil dish/tin foil and yet others have achieved very good results from the budget machines - if anyone else could share their experiences of brands or retailers - I'd really appreciate it - my wallet isn't ready for Bergeon just yet.

  10. Hi Rogart63, Your guy had several 2416’s to offer but no decent hands I’m afraid. Might go for a couple of the movements, just for the fun of it ;-) My current line of thought is to buy the 2 mm / 1,2 mm combo and see if I can squeeze the hour hand collar tight to 1,9 mm with a hollow stake. The minute hand I will try to ream up to the desired 1,38 mm using my recently purchased jewelling set that has a bunch of reamers with one being 1,39 mm. So if I’m a bit cautios with that one it might work... Any comments/experiences to share are appreciated! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  11. Finished fixing this Gruen Precision with a "Canada hockey dial" yesterday, maybe a common sight over the pond but the first time I've seen one. Movement is a Gruen 03, 25 jewels automatic.

  12. Thanks for posting the comparison. You are looking at the original 2824, but that OP probably had a 2824-2 stem, which has sizes A=75 E=315 B=110 C=110 D=90 F=39 That is much closer to a 27xx stem, and may almost fit. BTW, there is also an error for the 2824. Size E is supposed to be A+B+<dimension not specified>, but it reports A+B=160 with E=114.

  13. I want to chime in with jdm here. I had a recent experience buying several of their budget 10-in-a-box sets of crystals. All samples in a box were measuring 0,4 mm too small and I reported that back on their website and had overnight response that I was indeed correct and their stock had been checked and found faulty on that size. I was promptly refunded the not very big amount involved. S**t happens and proper response and handling counts a great deal in my book... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  14. They are supposed to increase pressure of the sliding pinion against the winding pinion. You should be able to use the common type providing the sliding pinon is square. Have you tried this site? http://www.windingstems.com/

  15. Winding by hand is precarious at best. Keep an eye on ebay for a reasonably priced set. I use a K&D set and it's invaluable, and I think I grabbed it for around $75. It might sound a little pricey but ruining several $10-$15 springs will end up costing more in the long run. This set will wind in either direction because the stud in the winding arbor is straight.

  18. I don't know the exact calibre but for sure it is a low grade pin lever movement. However this could be it: http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?00&ranfft&a&2uswk&Baumgartner_134

  19. Sharing a vintage Favre-Leuba Daymatic today. I believe it's from the late 50s or early 60s... Date was first included as a window in the dial around this time.. The pioneer was.. Rolex. Up close the dial looks pretty aged but at least it's legible and even across the dial. Case is not overly polished and the edges are still distinct if not sharp. Crown has marking but not FL. And between the lower lugs the number 1944 is engraved. Probably a serial or model number as this watch is not that old I think. The number 1944 is repeated on the case back as well. Perhaps 1944 is the model number and 64003 is the serial number? The case back is nicely done and we can see the hourglass which was later stylized to become the FL trademark. This inside of the case back is only marked with... Vacuum.. An inside is a nicely finished movement.. I think it's a Felsa of some sort. Again we see the hourglass.. Quite a good effort. But what really attracted me to this watch was the band.. It's in really nice condition and fills the lugs nicely without any gap.. Not surprising as its... ...meant for a Favre-Leuba! ..this is a stylized version of the hourglass on the case back. It's manufactured by Aristo..anyone heard of this brand? Hope u enjoyed the pictures! Anilv

  20. A really useful source of information is Christian aka watchguy.co.uk Check out https://watchguy.co.uk/cgi-bin/library?action=show_brand&brand=Roamer and you'll see he's worked on three 522's and taken photos along the way. I've worked on a Limelight and Searock with 522's in the recent past so may be able to help in the unlikely event you hit an issue.
