  1. Looks like solid banking rather than pins so unlikely that the banking geometry is out. More likely that the shellac on one of the pallet stones has failed and the stone has moved so far back into its housing that it no longer interacts with the escape wheel.

  2. Good afternoon, I'm Chris, new to the forum so greetings to all. Have replaced a faulty 2813 movement to find the new one stops the hour and minute hand when the hour hand is fitted, no dial. Works fine with the minute and seconds fitted, but the hour seems to be stalling the train. Checked that nothing is fouling the hand - am I right in believing this must be a faulty new movement ? Thank you in advance. Regards Chris

  3. Never give up put it down for a while, come back tomorrow, when brain is calmer. I have done same with assembling watches, one thing will not work and get so frustrated nearly ends in bin! Lol. Next day everything seems so much better.

  5. Dose the movement turn the hour wheel? ( No hands fitted) If you can,t tell by usual indicators, I would wind and get the movement runing, Mark ( The tube you mounted the hour hand on) with a magic marker, ( no hand fitted) , check if the hour wheel has moved several hours later, thereby we can tell if fouling occurs as a result of pressing down on the hour hand/wheel. Could you have pressed the hour hand too far down? Best

  6. yes it's solid banking not banking pins, I tried 3 different pallet forks and nothing changed do I don't think the pallet stones are the problem. I lost hope at this point and I don't think this watch is gonna tick, I am so disappointed but failure is a part of the learning process thank you guys you have been really nice and helpful I hope my next pject turns out better than this one

  7. Like most Russian watches, if it is serviced and in good working order it is worth far more than you could sell it for. Value wise if you look on eBay you will find this sort of Poljot going for any where between £5 and £25 depending on condition, it could fetch more but not very likely. Russian watches tend to be very under rated though (in my opinion)and consequently demand far lower prices than their Swiss equivalents. They are quite capable movements though, and well worth picking up if you're into solid reliable engineering. Unfortunately a lot of them are rather let down by their cases.

  9. Thanks for your help. I ordered the KIF tool set with the extra springs since mine went missing. However, when I sat down yesterday to fix it, the d*mn spring mysteriously reappeared on my workbench. I have no idea were it hid but I suspect it stuck to my dust tray somehow. The tools were smaller than expected but color coded on size so it was not a big problem figuring out what size my spring was. After 10 minutes both upper and lower springs were mounted. The tools was worth every penny. My first watch (40+ years) is now ticking away !

  10. Just like the topic title says, the OP has trouble fitting the pallet fork. Nothing to do with the balance etc. That can be because one or both pivots are broken. Inspect them with a loupe. One can also remove main bridge and train, and install the pallet fork and its bridge alone just for verification and learning its proper positioning. As often mentioned is better that a beginner do practice with a working mov't, otherwise he may have trouble telling it the problem was there before, or he created it.

  11. Looks like it can replace a lot of chucks, mandrels and faceplate on a lathe!

  12. Likely the hairspring coils are touching or is strongly magnetized. If has not been done in the last 10 years it should be completely serviced.

  13. Another Timex novelty watch, with a cow, and a fly... nope I have no idea why. This arrived with the battery retaining clip missing, so I had to fabricate one. Rather fittingly, since I had no brass sheet thin enough, I resorted to a small piece of the lid of a can of sardines, rescued from the trash. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiKLDkO-0rQ The paint was sanded off, then the metal was tinned with the soldering iron and cut/filed to shape, so If you see a bunch of flies following me around, there may be a reason for that. They are either after the watch, or more likely, the sardines.

  14. If you're certain on the AS then it probably actually says 1690/92. You could certainly pick up second-hand parts or a donor on ebay as you've intimated (e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/M22-Mens-Vintage-Waltham-AS-1690-92-movement/322426600684). For a lot of vintage watches getting hold of new parts however is difficult. Fortunately for your specific movement spares seem pretty readily available ... certainly if I look at my main supplier (UK based Cousins) they can provide lots of parts for the AS 1690. A new barrel arbor is £5.96 and screws (in a pack of three) are the same price. Tax and postage have to be figured in but that gives a ballpark for you. I note you're in the US so you could try a supplier closer to home - the resource page https://www.watchrepairtalk.com/links/watch-clock-repair-suppliers/united-states/ gives main ones for starters. IMPORTANT: I note you mention that your movement is a 7 jewel variety but according to ranfft (http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&0&2uswk&AS_1690) the 1690/92 should have 15 or 17 jewels. This isn't to say that a 7 jewel variety doesn't exist but given doubt on your original ID I thought it worth a mention. If in doubt post some pics here so folk can confirm.

  15. WatchGuy has a mainspring database here where with some Seikos, although not all are listed. Sometimes you have to figure out what movement have the exact same spring.

  16. Got one finally. Been after one for ages but never wanted to pay the silly prices. Nice and chunky.
