Watch of Today

Recommended Posts

Today was a Black Monster day for me.

Picked this one up from the ‘bay for about $70 including shipping. The seller stated that it needed to be repaired. I simply adjusted the rotor a little bit, and it has been running extremely well. Have been wearing it for two days without any issues. The bezel has a few scratches, but that does not bother me at all. I just love the lume on these watches.

How much is the rent?

It actually works this way: I show my watch collection to the wife. She choses one for me to wear and I set a price so I can spend the money in...more watches! So, to answer your question Joe, rent is variable but she thinks it is me joking....until she check the statements! :)

Stroopy! A Q&Q watch?  :geek:

Yeah...I know it isn't high-end and all and I do know that Q&Q are Citizen's "cheapy" watches but it was a gift and when I meet up with the person who gave it to me I kind of consider it nice and polite to wear the watch.  Actually it keeps excellent time, looks quite nice and, hey, it does its job.

:D

Ah the joys of marriage...shared bank accounts...wife does the budget...wife looks sternly at you when you gaze longingly at that new watch/car/tv/stereo, etc...  Wife controls the hoarding instincts and wife ditches stuff that you always think should never have been thrown out.  Women...just marvellous!  :P  ;)

Holy *#^@*!  Are they out of their frigging minds?  I have a few similar to that one and it is nothing special, ROFL   It's not like that is REAL gold there;)  That must be a record for "one" of the stupidest prices on Ebay!  Can I give them the prize?  :D

At the end of the day, that's the bottom line--JC

The dunk and swish is literal--the ENTIRE movement (minus the barrel) is just thrown into lighter fluid....the depravity is shocking!

Well at least I've been doing this right since day one;) it's definitely a method that has been proven and works quite well!!!

@Cad101 I have a few like that....love them;)  Is that a pin-lever single jewel?  (I love the sound of them but annoy many others in the process, haha)

Today's watch is sort of a garbage pick.  This lot I picked up had a whole bunch of junk that the person said "was pure crap but I might get a part or two out of it if I look hard enough".  Well, I saw a vintage Westclox that needed some love and after just over 9 hours, she is ticking away again! (took two FULL services to get it going too)

    • I didn't mean that literally but you could of course not know that. I was thinking of Jerry Seinfeld who recently said: "The secret of life is to waste time in ways that you like". If true, it is shameful considering the price. I do not think it is true. On the contrary, I think they are using Sellita's premium grade but it would be interesting to have it confirmed or denied by a reliable source. So do I 😍
    • The easiest way to tell what grade the movement is by inspecting it with special reference to the balance. Standard and elabore as a pair share the same balance which has different shaped spokes compared to the ones used in top and chronometer. It could be standard, elabore or top, unlikely to be chronometer grade as that is often marked on the dial.    Tom
    • Ha, like OH I have 4; just weighed my most used one and it's 30 grams with the (lightweight) handle, so right at 1 ounce. There's a smaller one, and two larger. Again like OH the biggest one gets used for clock work and comes in at 55g.
    • Hi I’m quite new to the clock hobby with a lot to learn. Wondering whether anyone has clue as to the age and make of this mantel clock - whether it is unusual for this age (circa 1900?) to have a platform escapement? ..and whether there is anything about that escapement that helps to ID the make or manufacture date? thanks, Rupert
    • Hello friends, connected to some questions I raised in a thread about JLC cal 916 (see here: https://www.watchrepairtalk.com/topic/29824-jaeger-lecoultre-calibre-916-memovox/?do=findComment&comment=253043), I'm starting this topic about Moebius Lubeta V106 for oscillating weight ball bearings -- not to be confused with V105 for reversing wheels.     Does anyone know more? As in, what it consists of?   I'm asking because Lubeta V105 can be "recreated" by mixing benzine and 9010. (image credit @mikepilk)     I wonder if Lubeta V106 is also a basic mix like that.... and stumbled on the service guide for the JLC calibre 918. Interestingly, the "create" an immersion lubricant with benzine and D5 oil. Could this be what V106 is??
