Which Watch Have You Got Coming In The Mail ? Show Us !!!

Recommended Posts

Good morning people. I want to share the watches I bought at one auction yesterday. Eight watches, six lots, with little time to spare because I didn’t know about the auction. I think I got really lucky on all of it, but one in particular is unlike any I have seen before. I’ll whip through the first seven watches quickly then on to my unusual one. I hope somebody here can tell me about it.

1 – A Paul Dupree Aquamatic, which I’ve never heard of. Looks early 70s.

2 – A Rensie 14k (so they said), don’t know this one either, but late 40s maybe? Incabloc.

3 – A pair of women’s watches, one Banner and one other.

4 – A Wittnauer 10k.

5 – A 21j Rockford pocket watch, open face gf case. I could not read the serial number in the pix but I am thinking it is a grade 645 model 2.

6 – The doozy: a pair of older pocket watches, one billed as Elgin and the other one – the super cool one – has no indication of maker. Has anyone ever seen a movement like this? I have quite a few ideas about what it all is but hopefully someone can tell me, and if not it will be here soon enough.

The second most amazing thing is how little I paid for them all. Waiting to see what postage will be, but most might just make your 404 club.

Haha Nessie are you attempting to enter the Guinness world records for most owned watches 😆. Ps there is a waiver on the postage for the 404.

Well now, if I didn't have to collect in a vacuum I'd have known my collection was larger than normal. Plus, I heard someone say there are  neverenoughwatches, and I was foolish enough to believe it.  Plus, when I did come clean, seems I told a birdy that likes to sing. Ah well, I guess it's true: You're only as sick as your secrets.

Now onto the real question: what's up with that movement, my last pic? All kinds of critters in it.

I love the last one it has some kind of jungle theme going on and even has a  compass. It seems magnetism in a watch wasn't an issue in those days. 🙃

Ok, and if this watch community was not allergic to letting me give things away, then a) I could stop looking for a charity to give it all to, and b) I could walk across my home more freely, as could my poor dog, because there would be room for a floor.

While we're at it, those aren't the only ones I bought yesterday. However, I did suceed in swearing off auctions for two moths beforehand, and today I am NOT looking.

Finally, it's an investment in my old age. As unpopular as the idea is, I buy the gold ones only when I get the at 1/3 spot price, now that ain't  all bad. I am kind of old, and I have to care for my mother, who is even older than I am.

OK I admit it, I am going for the world record, only prefer it was for some distinction other that Crazy Watch Lady.

Lol you are funny. Nobody is stopping you give things away, but why buy them and then want to give them away ? I get the investment bit, its one reason i started, 10 years to go before my retirement age so plenty ( unlikely ) of time to build my collection. Crazy watch lady is better than crazy cat lady, all that fur and pee and dead birds for presents 🤢 🤮.

Lol, my mother's calling me, it's my bedtime, I need to wash my car, ...um, I don't think I fed the dog...and more or I would gladly explain why I buy them to give them away. Darn it, if I had more time...

If, however, you are inclined to tell me about the Noah's Ark - like movement I posted a pic of, I'll be sure to be right back.

Aw bugger, it looks like we've hijacked this old major thread, i take full responsibility.  I shall behave, ( for now) . Tbh i have absolutely no idea about the watch, its very unusual and very dirty and unless anyone here has come across one before you may not find answers. If you are lucky some watchmaker may have specialised in something like this and is recognised. It may also have been a one off, part of a run of similar themes or maybe even a craze or fad among makers. Hopefully it has some markings inside that will point us to some answers. I think thats covered most variables and is rather vague and unhelpful i do apologise. Post it up when it arrives, lots of photos from every angle.

I think that's either a giraffe or a two headed serpent...here is a negative with various features colored differently, I am still not sure.

Lol,  please don't.  I was just thinking, well, or not....

Speaking of thinking (or not), did you tell me last night we were hijacking this thread? New though I am, I assume that means going off topic, and furthermore that such a thing is frowned upon.

I have one suggestion, maybe we could start a whole new area instead of continuing to meet this way. It would be called "Watch Out", or "Mainsprung", maybe "The Click". Anybody funny might enjoy it, and I think you could be the boss of the whole thing. Well?

Yeah it kinda is, as you can guess I've been trouble for it before. It can be a bit disrespectful to the original poster if they are keen to get answers or an old well used thread like this. A little way off topic i would suggest is ok if it has some relevance, but not to carry on a conversation with no regard for anyone else who posts on popular thread. I sense a telling off coming 😁

I would be the boss ?  Now the mind boggles 😁.  I have an inclination my humor is too out there for most people, and know for a fact some don't particularly like it or me. So j would say that a no go situation 🤣

I actually call this hijacking the discussion which I frown upon. typically people come into a discussion with my watch has the same problem but they fail to grasp that basically each watch is unique and even though it may share similar problems it should be a unique discussion. Otherwise it becomes a very confusing discussion and somebody might not actually get the help they seek. plus for those trying to help it just becomes very confusing as which watch are we talking about now?

for this discussion we are currently at 44 pages of the discussion titled Which Watch Have You Got Coming In The Mail ?   my interpretation is this is where we show off our nifty things that are coming to us and maybe a little bit of discussion about them.

how about if I interpret what this means with a link. Here's a discussion kinda similar look at my watches I need some help with them and you'll notice that Mark replies and I gave him a thumbs up. Maybe I'm getting it wrong what's going on here but I have a feeling it looks like it's heading in that direction.

I hear that John! However, to paraphrase the Rolling Stones, I can't always get what I want, but I get what I need. I need to find a way to clown with  others that is not disrespectful to the rest of the group, amen. If neverenoughwatches has been in trouble for it I cannot be far behind. I will uncharacteristically fade away to the land of focus, make like a Beatle and Let it Be. Thank you.

Speaking of which, John,  I am still curious about this watch. If you can point me in a direction I'd appreciate it. Like Cat Stevens said, I'm on the road to find out.

Actually John i think the guy was just after making a few quid on some broken watches.  How much to repair them and how much are they worth once fixed. Thats kinda taking the pee dont you think and not what i thought WRT is really about. Unlikely he will revisit.

If this hijacked vessel can handle one more stowaway observation, I find it somehow sad and disappointing when people amble through forums like this one asking how much their watch is worth. It's even worse when it was handed down to them from generations gone, especially when it says Quartz on it.

    • Have you got the pallet fork installed in the movement when you see the train move when using the setting works? As nevenbekriev said, without the pallet fork to lock the train, the behaviour you are describing is normal. If this is happening with the pallet fork installed, you have a problem in the gear train, it should be immobile when the pallet fork is locking the escape wheel.  The fit of the circlip above the pinions on that wheel is crooked in your pictures, it should sit flat up against the upper pinion as in Marc’s picture.  Hope that helps, Mark
    • Hi I got a Jaeger LeCoultre K911 movement, where one of the stems was broken. Part no. Should be 401.  Im based in Europe and tried Cousins but its discontinued. They except to get stem in stock for cal. K916 but will that work? Or Is there a way out to join the ends?
    • The part was how it fell out of the movement - the train wheel bridge wasn’t screwed in.    I’ll probably dismantle the part, if I can, to work it out.    The train of wheels ran fine - it was only once the keyless works were installed I noticed the problem.
    • Hello, I am about 5 months into watchmaking and I love it!   The attention to precise detail is what really attracts me to it. (and the tools!) I am working on a 16 jewel 43mm pocket watch movement.   There are no markings besides a serial number (122248) .  The balance staff needs replacement. The roller side pivot broke off.  I successfully removed the hairspring using Bergeon 5430's.  I successfully removed the roller using Bergeon 2810.   Did i mention I love the tools?! I removed the staff from the balance wheel using a vintage K&D staff removal tool  with my Bergeon 15285 (that's the one that comes with a micrometer adjustment so it can be used as a jewel press as well as a traditional staking tool...it's sooooo cool...sorry..  can you tell i love the tools?) No more digressing..  I measured the damaged staff in all the relevant areas but I have to estimate on some because one of the pivots is missing. A = Full length  A= 4.80mm  (that's without the one pivot...if you assume that the missing pivot is the same length as the other pivot (I'm sure it's not)  then A = 5.12 mm...(can I assume 5.00mm here?) F=  Hair spring collet seat  F=  .89mm   (safe to assume .90 here? .. I am sure that my measurement's would at least contain  .01 mm error ?) G = balance wheel seat  G = 1.23 mm  (1.20mm?) H  =  roller staff  H =  .59mm  (.60 mm?) B  = bottom of the wheel to roller pivot   B  = 2.97mm  (3.00 mm?)     here I am estimating  again because this pivot is missing. So my friends, and I thank you profusely,  can you point me in the right direction as to how to proceed? Do i buy individual staffs?  or an assortment?   Since I don't know exactly the name of the manufacturer, will that be a fatal hindrance?   Tbh, I'm not even sure what country of origin this movement is. Thank you!
    • Thats why i asked that question earlier, what happens if lubrication is placed directly on top of epilame ?  As opposed to walled within its non epilamed area . I'm not saying its right, i have no idea , just asking questions.
