Music Recommendations for when you are Watching or Clocking.

Recommended Posts

For me, it has to be a classical symphony, or a piano concerto.

About three years ago, I discovered a classical radio programme that

is available 24/7 online from Washington, USA.

I 'bluetooth' it into my 5:1 surround sound system.

Since then, I have never looked back, or bothered with the outdated and drab; BBC radio 3.

In fact, I have absolutely nothing to do with anything via the BBC.

I gave up the TV several years ago.

YouTube is far more interesting and you do not need a licence to view.

Which one did you find? There seems to be more than one. Is it King?

Thanks!

Hiya, dadistic!

The one I found is, 'Classical WETA.'  (90.9 FM. Washington based)

Brilliant programme.

Due to the 5 hour time zone difference between here, in the UK and the USA, there are some parts

of WETA that I cannot listen to.

(Gotta get me zzzzzzzzzz's!)

They have a sister channel called, VivaLaVoce.

That one is dedicated to opera, but I prefer the classical music on Classical WETA.

Regards.

Len.

Speaking of streaming (something that can't easily or reliably be done on my internet connection), I used to do a fair bit of it. These days (owing in part to the aforementioned lack of communications infrastructure), my music is 100% vinyl. 6-8 hours a day playing in the background, just rolling through my entire collection. I'm also a software engineer, and spend too much time in front of a computer screen for my eyes, and glasses are a fact of life. I've found that the ~20 minute/side is the perfect interval to get up from whatever eye intensive thing I'm doing to give myself a break. I know the topic is re: music, but the form factor plays a part as well. Also, hi-fi audio has a lot of mental overlap with horology, and I've got a tube pre-amp project on the back burner... Well, it's been a bit more in the front over the last few days, but it's a relatively low priority due to the same desk hog project that's keeping the watches in the drawer.

I just thought it worth waking up this thread with today's suggestions.
Klaus Schulze - My Ty She

.. and perhaps if you enjoy Indian classical music a little bit of mellow bamboo flute might be just the thing to keep you "in the zone" while trying to massage those hairsprings.

Victor Sylvester orchestra and the unmistakable violin sound of Oscar Grasso.

Very nice but I think something is wrong.  The left channel is totally dead.  😁

I like listening to Oldtime.radio.  They play old time radio shows from before TV and you can download them as mp3.

    • You could also use a very fine artist's brush to brush between the coils.  If you get a size 00 or even 000 that should be small enough for convenience, and with bristles so fine that they are incapable of damaging the hairspring.  Get a good one though, like Windsor-Newton or similar.  I have never had a Windsor-Newton brush shed on my art or other work.  You want a soft brush that will not shed.
    • Sounds interesting but how do you push the button if you’re holding both ends? the large current draw overheats after 3-5 seconds and the thermister triggers. A great tool for magnetizing things but I’ve not be able to ever demag anything with it because the emf is so strong it pulls the item off center (down or up).   I paid $89 bucks for it from  CAS-KER, if someone on the board wants it I’d gladly sell it for $25 plus shipping (probably US only otherwise postal costs are prohibitive). Just sent me a note offline.
    • Hi. First thing to do is measure your oil movement as the vx32E and the 43 look very similar but one is a couple of mill smaller the vx32E.  Also the canon pinion heights differ attached tech sheets for 7N22. And  VX43, check details on the sheets. 7N22A_29A_33A_42A_43A.pdf VX43.pdf Hattori VX32E - Specification.pdf Hattori VX32E - Disassemble.pdf
