  3. A recent purchase which I thought warranted a review. Chinese Bergeon style winder/tester for auto watches at under £35! I'm pleased with it currently and will see how it holds up with more use, past 2 days with a morning and evening 2 hour session on an auto plug timer so far.

  4. Hello I just did an overhaul on the movement (image is another test movement). To me, it's a mystery why the hands not moving when the crown is pulled in. Actually, the watch won't run(seems there is no activity in the center wheel). Prior to service, it was running, but turning the hands occasionally, wherefore I took it apart. I tightened the canon pinion as well, but that only helped with resistance when turning hands. Is the gap between center wheel pin and canon pinion causing the issue?

  7. You have to hand it to the boys in India . Where else can you get a GENYOUWINE Swiss watch serviced and delivered to your door for under twenty dollars ! Perhaps from a NYC street vendor, but nowhere else !

  9. The Master Clock and Watch Makers of Western Australia Inc (Association) had there AGM late last month and prior to the meeting I had it suggested to me to apply for the Secretary position. I had been thinking I would like to do a bit more for the association so agreed to nominate myself and as expected I was elected unopposed. Just last weekend I got access the the association email address and have just started taking up my roll this week. I've already got a number of tasks lined up and I hope I will carry out the roll well and great a good sense of satisfaction from it. It's certainly one way for me get more involved in keeping Horology live and well within Western Australia.

  10. Oil instead of any loosening and turn the canon pinion back& forth through the crown, as if setting hands. Otherwise proper loosening may involve broaching the canon pinion. That is all the culprit there, no other known culprit and you can just observe the functioning of set mech and min train.

  11. For project watches with missing spacers, I sometimes 3D print spacers if the nett shape is too complex or time consuming to machine. I can cad model and print in a fraction of the time it takes to machine from solid. The results are as good as the original part, although not authentic of course - but ..... the watch is returned to a running and wearable status. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. I have worked on a few of these and in general they don't create too much difficulty for overhaul. The concept of operation is simple where the battery supplies power to an electronic circuit that outputs a pulse or wave form into a coil that drives the balance wheel via fixed coil on the board and permanent magnet on the wheel (some variations have a coil on the balance wheel). From there the wheel itself drives the movement. Interestingly this is the reverse of a normal mechanical watch 'power flow' where the balance wheel absorbs the power through the drive chain from the mainspring. There are several variations to the above though, but the general principle applies even to tuning fork movements which have no balance wheel or course but the mechanical energy is derived from the fork, again into the movement drive chain. (take extra care servicing these...several very delicate parts) In my experience you should find them relatively easy to work on and fault find. If the movement does not work then try to resolve between electrical or mechanical issues with the most common being open circuit coils, although I had a hard one to fix recently (Citizen Cosmotron) where the permanent magnet appeared to be damaged by the previous owner attempting to de-magnetise it. Luckily a spare was available. Check all electrical contacts and continuity and clean (Rodico does the job, or an ink rubber). Many of these old movements can be tuned to keep excellent time and are well worth repair..... Good luck.

  15. Top word is Защитнику, reads as Zashchitniku, which means protector/defender. Bottom word Спецназовские , reads as Spetsnazovskiye , and means special forces (I think). So what you have is Russian Military watch

  16. A watch does not need to be original. It needs to work.Far better to wear a watch made from parts, than those parts went into the smelter.

  17. I am not planning on using any dial feet but will machine a movement holder/spacer out of delrin which should hold the movement securely and concentric to the dial.

  18. Modern automatic springs are just a single part, they don't have a separate 'brake'. The part you need is : GR39981X https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/145mm-height?code=GR39981X

  19. I serviced one of these about a couple of week ago. I found the ratchet wheel (which is what it is) was friction fitted to the barrel arbor. With some careful encouragement with 120 screwdriver, turning the driver as I rotated the barrel, the wheel popped off. Of course, once off, the arbor was freed from the barrel. Refitting was done using brass tweezers, again rotating while pushing down (not much force required). The servicing went relatively well and the watch is now winds perfectly and is ticking away happily! Hope that helps? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
