Moderators perform an essential role in any community, but all have checks and balances. I am the main admin and even I have to control myself in order to attempt to maintain a friendly forum. I am sorry you were prompted to create this thread - I think I know the reason. I am extremely busy at the moment creating new content for the course BUT I want it known that I still monitor very closely the security of the software. I cannot, however, have time to monitor each and every thread - that's why we have the "REPORT POST" feature (which people can use in order to notify moderators and myself of potential problems). It is discouraging and makes the community look bad when we see lack of patience and bickering so please do use this feature and hopefully we can keep this community growing. This is not the largest watch forum on the net - but I did start it with a vision for being among the friendliest5 points

All off-topic posts removed - this is how it will be from now on. Please please please keep threads on topic out of respect for the OP. Please please please - no bickering, and that goes for everyone. It makes our forum look bad - we are a group of great people, we can keep it that way. If anyone spots this happening again from now on - please report the post - there is a link above every single post, I will be on it like flies on a turd. now - back on topic, pretty please3 points

His name is Phil and We rescued him from a shelter in Mt. Olive North Carolina he was found in a garbage bag with all his litter mates, the rest were dead. Apparently the breeders top cat mixed with a stray and she didn't want them . Phil was pretty sick when we got him 3 years ago but now is a great , loving , half Lilac Siamese half alley cat. He is very loud talker & every night hew howls after we go to bed until I tell him to bring his toys to bed . Then one by one he brings his carrot, his bird, his tiger, and his monkey stuffed animal and drops it on my chest. The remains quiet and sleeps the rest of the night next to me. It would have been a terrible thing to not rescue a great cat like Phil here he is the day I brought him home, before he changed his color2 points

Hi Martini [emoji4] ou plutôt Bonjour ('m French too) There are things I really don't understand. First : You write your purpose is just to get your Apnea working for a few more years, but you have probably already spent more than (or at least close to) the cost of a new Miyota 8520 in tools. So ... May I say that you also "want to get some experience in horology" ? Then : You write you're not in a hurry but you dont want to spend a few more hours in servicing your movement all through the way. So ... May I say that you "want your Apnea working as soon as possible" ? All this shows, IMHO, contradictory and mixed feelings. If I where you I would : 1 - order a new Miyota 8520 2 - proceed to movement swap 3 - put my watch on my wrist and enjoy it then : 4 - completely service my old movement 5 - with some luck ... get it working 6 - keep it as a spare part for the future Mais ce n'est que mon avis [emoji6] Good luck with your Apnea Envoyé de mon Moto G (5) Plus en utilisant Tapatalk2 points

Picked up a pair of vintage side marker lights at a fleamarket recently for around USD5. It's marked LEP which I guess is Lucas Electric (Parts?)? But on most Lucas items I usually see Made in England marked somewhere but not on this one, perhaps the small size was a factor. Body is heavy, probably chromed brass so I guess it would be pre WW2 or at least a pre WW2 design. The red plastic would be an indicator to show if the light was working. Anyone have an idea what car (or bike) they would have fitted originally? anilv1 point

Had a pretty similar issue with such a movement and the hairspring was a bit faulty.1 point

Yes i totally agree with you, i just wanted to point that a vanguard is twice the value of a 845. Anyway i am an amateur, it's for the fun and not for the profit.1 point

Pocket watches are a great way to start. If all the parts are there and intact, especially balance staffs, working on them is relatively easy. If parts are broken/missing, then you need to be the kind of person that likes a treasure hunt! The parts are out there, but parts hunting can be an art. No one is selling here, but people can sometimes point you in the right direction. Have Fun!1 point

Another vote here for Donald De Carle's book "Watch Repairing". I like pocket watches, always wanted one since being a kid and seeing antique ones. While they are bigger than watches, they are a lot more convenient to collect than cars or boats, and the tools take up less space! I like De Carle's approach, as he starts from first principles, and makes so many parts instead of trying to buy them.1 point

Well when I said old tool, here's a internet copy of a 1899 watchmakers suppliers catalogue similar tools appear on page 102 of the catalogue they may have at the time forgot to add your name to there mailing list . https://archive.org/details/20thcenturycatal00purd It does make interesting reading as a catalogue thats over 100 years old there are some very familiar old tools listed.1 point

Just to follow up I received replacement parts during this week and just reassembled my mainspring winder today and it all looks good, so problem is now solved. Yes this was made by the main supplier of these in the USA, I know of 4 other people with the same brand of mainspring winder and theirs had no issues, I must of just got unlucky, but the manufacturer just going by my photos agreed their was an issue and made me the new parts and sent them to me at their expense so I am happy. Now I can finally reassemble the clock barrels I am working on.1 point
