  2. My master told me both, but a very very tiny amount. You would oil both if the pallets were of the pin type.

  3. In poorer countries you find watches have a longer lifespan than In a more affluent countries. Typically you find stuff that usually will be thrown away can be 'reporter'. You've all probably heard horror stories about how the russkies maintained (for want of a better word) their cars..its usually not by choice! You've also probably heard that some items like cars, watches were not available to the general public..you probably couldn't get them in the shop but had to wait until your number came up! So what was available got used way beyond what would be considered its normal service life in other countries. Secondly, how many 'water proof' cases do you see from these parts? Apart from amphibias there's really no water or dust protection at all.! Despite that a lot of the poorer specimens can be brought back to life with a clean and service... but you'll need to find a decent case for it! Anil

  4. Small update. No one I can buy directly from has any 3u62 movements. Been keeping my eye out for donors ever since. Watches using this movement are sought after and often go for silly money. I think Deep Blue also bought a hell of a lot of movements. Anyway, this came up and no one was bidding very high as the seller mistakenly advertised it as missing battery cover screws. They are in fact the screws to the depth meter gauge of which I have a spare. Hooefully the movement is good. I prefer the Accurist (with a nice sapphire crystal [emoji4] ) but we'll see when it arrives. £12 from Italy

  6. The other thing you can do is to use one shot enamel paint. This is the paint that a pinstriper uses. It will lay flat and complete

  7. Ohhh...if anyone wants to make a left-handed wrist watch, look for one powered by an eta1256. The dial feet are symmetrical so you can flip it 180degrees and instantly have a watch with the crown on the left! Anil

  8. In the work-houses back in the day, watchmakers had to sit at benches very close to each other..one lefty will be forever banging elbows with his partner o. The left! I'm just joking ! I'm half Chinese and at a Chinese dinner its impossible to eat with chopsticks if you're seated next to a lefty...it gets quite cosy at some dinners! Anil

  11. That is correct. You can oil the pallet stones with a very tiny drop of oil but that is all.

  12. As oldhippy says, only ting is did you properly index the day wheel with the day star (little gear wheel)? Unless you manage to get them in the exactly right location your day wont align centrally in the window, I have tried to re-glue several and getting the indexing right can be a real pain.

  16. Just a thought but if you watch any of those "Russian dash cam" videos you'll see that Russians are also not fond of washing and polishing their cars. I think it is a hangover from Soviet times. The Russians see consumables at the very basic level of utilitarianism. "Me Boris...me no care if watch shiny. Must work, must take knock from shovel when I dig potatoes. If broken, fix. Me no care if no more shiny. If no can fix, sell to stupid westerners! Da!"
