When out with my good lady I spotted this:-

Struck me that there was another use !!!

Well i was meaning to get a dust cover anyway :cool: Works for me !

 

NB Other products from other suppliers may work just as well :D

Hello Urger and OldHippy,

 

Mainspring winders were a bargain ! I have always soldiered along putting them in by hand though a carriage clock spring I replaced was - interesting ! Could be a bit cutting if unlucky.

 

The glasses are a good substitute as well - could get some cheap and Dremel off the most part of the stem - I am the sort of person that would catch it with my wrist and spend ages picking up the bits though  :pulling-hair-out:  - will stick with plastic for now :thumbsu:

Well, guys, a cool onion storage pod, nice wine cups...who said we couldn't start a party with our own tools! We just need the wine and snacks! I love all those solutions, the dentist's one give me the shivers, never liked dentists  :)  Disclaimer: (not talking about the persons but the occupation)! :D

 

I wonder how many other inexpensive, everyday items we could use. Things that work well and give us as much pride and satisfaction!

I use this "stackable pill boxes" to store parts and movements but I suppose it is a no brainer! Sold in pharmacies everywhere.

In the north east we have a tendency to call swedes - turnips. I wonder if the Victorians meant turnip. It's a matter of size I suppose, I know that as a child we never heard of pumpkins and hollowed out a swede and put a candle in it. Never seen a pocket watch with a candle in it though. (:-))

vich - a candle in a pocket watch is the old fashioned way they did lume. it wasn't very bright and the wax made a mess. lol

 

bobm - ive gotta use those stackable pill boxes. i have been looking for a while for something to use for spare parts and movements.

Pancake day - we had nutella and sliced banana rolled up in the pancake - hardly surprising that my circumference is increasing but at least now I will keep the jar instead of recycling it :thumbsu:

Walgreens and CVS  (former Eckerd's) as well as other pharmacies carry them (usually in 2 different diameters) in the "pills" splitting tool section. Some sell them at better prices than others. I did use the larger ones for complete movements!

Also used for cleaning movements in the ultrasonic, storing parts, tools.... The lids are also very convenient because they have a high lip all around, and the plastic coating inside keeps the parts from bouncing around.

We eat one of those pots every week, so I have a few spares :) And I make scented candles for my other half when I run out of space for them :)

Being dragged around our local Range store by the wife I spotted these at £1.99 each there a bit of a bargain :D

I will remove the smelly rose but can't make my mind up should i leave the bow on Its sooooo pretty.

I've used these type of watercolour pallette, especially with chronos where i want to keep the screws with their components.

Also useful for watches which I don't come across often enough.

Easily sourced at the art-shop... lower end ones of course.

      Hello good watch folk ,I  just fancied a light hearted discussion after my head was starting to spin over Epilame 😅. Specifically I'm meaning the sale of vintage watches, say nothing past the 1980s market. The stuff we see on ebay and other similar sites and found at carboots, curio shops etc. And are  we thinking its reaching a peak volume ?  Younger generations clearing out passed parents and grandparents possessions.  The younger folk are not as sentimental as the old fogies ( I'm now nearly at an age that i used to think was old fogie age ). When might it have started ?  i often wish i discovered the hobby much much sooner when selling your grandfathers pocket watch at a boot sale for a few quid was just a way to offload some tat. And when might it slow down. Thoughts anyone ?

      Yes i did eventually realise that the oil will act as a barrier, I'm sure the discussion will continue. Ive had two oleophobic coffees ( added coconut ) and in the meantime i have this just delivered to take my mind off epilame for the time being. My favourite type of dial, its a beautiful looking watch traditional English made and it runs,  the ticktock is phenomenal,  i can hear it across my living room .  You wont believe how much it was. Thats interesting about synthetic oils , i thought the same, going from a 2 year service to 5 years is a big drop in income for service folk.  I expect some did well when they embraced the use of synthetic,  probably drawing in more customers than those that didn't use the new fangled substances , i bet fairly short lived though. The more frequent service makes more sense to me, not for just the service but for the regular check up inspections that might pick up impending faults. As far as epilame goes, wouldn't it be great to be able to fumigate the complete movement in a sealed jar of heated stearic acid, 🤔 now theres a thought 😅.

      Imm going to close the discussion by attaching the photo of my super-titanium after several vicissitudes finally working. Purchased as not working I replaced the battery and for a stroke of luck I found its semi-new solar panel which, having verified its operation, seems to recharge the accumulator perfectly. I had taken this watch almost by bet, with 40 euros I brought it back to life. The initial half idea was to resell it to finance another purchase, but.. it's definitely a nice item. It would need to check the impermeability but it's a pleasure to see it on the wrist 😃

      Yea a have given it a full service this movement is chinese 2813 whats the lift angle for this movement does anyone knows  and how  do a remove the default  of 52 degrees on my timegrapher?   Hi you said my lift angle is default how do a remove this from my timegrapher?
