Not even a nice looking fake. Hopefully eBay act promptly now Geo has reported it.  Sadly eBay tend to drag their feet & someone will for sure be conned & the seller will just disappear into the sunset. To add the seeds of doubt I have asked the seller many questions.

I'd venture another opinion that the photos are of the real thing but that this is some other scam.

The dial and case look to be an accurate copy of this http://www.watches.co.uk/archived-watch/9046/omega-speedmaster-automatic/

Usually fakes have the odd dial marker offset or poor quality printing. Also the inclusion of the half link in the bracelet seems like an extreme measure for a fake (but I'm not an expert).

My guess is that you'd recieve something else or nothing at all if you tried to buy.

Just my 2 cents, but definitely not my £60!

The problem I have with blatant fakes is it is a straight forward con. In many cases being supported by organised crime. There are thousands of these to be found in holiday resorts Spain/Greece etc. If it is a copy & sold as is then we'll ok.

They sell these things in Europe?  I thought the EU customs people were all over the fakes.  Down here in Australia customs will allow you to get through customs with a fake on your arm and maybe three or four watches in your bags for friends and family but anything more than that they confiscate.

 

You can find fakes at the fleamarkets but it's a furtive business and everything is under the table.  You have to ask.  Personally I think that they are a no-no.  The money goes to finance crime and other appalling stuff.

Customs of EU countries cannot check every shipment that comes in, and pretty much gave up on checking on people too.

 

Also many people nowadays buys counterfeits on the Internet because it's cheaper and there is much more choice. You can guess  the seller is not declaring "fake watch" and not even replica or "original Rolex value $100".

      The plate is OK, thanks. It seems the answer to my question is that this is a 'hack' & for me another reminder that in general, one won't be the first person to be tinkering with an old timepiece!. As you day, I've been fortunate to have gotten some good advice and, just as important, encouragement. I've been lucky then not to have the balance spring break as a result of my novice 'ministrations' - but I did remember to 'stroke' rather than bend per se. The clock is of sentimental value to the owner so I'm relieved to have now got it running to time with the support & encourage of forum members like yourself.

      In think you are effectively shortening the coil by shorting out damaged tracks. In my case as long as the continuity was good and the resistance not too greatly affected it should be ok .  One was on an era  movement,
