  1. Agree with all above. If you decide to remove the endstone assembly, soak in naphta for a day or use penetrating oil on the screws, leave oil to soak-in over night. Sharpen a screwdriver to perfect fit, place the cock on a hard flat surface, press rather hard on the screwdriver, if it dosn,t unscrew easy, soak more. These little screws get stripped easy.

  2. Maybe the crown wheel ring? Try whether it fits on the crown wheel post and if it does see whether the crown wheel fits on it.

  3. Just tighten the spring for better grip on arbor. Can be wound in manually, rinse and grease afterwards, start from outer coils to wind in.Greasing wont be as thorough but hardly the end of the world. Wear protective gogles. I assume it is manual wind.

  4. Sounds like a good plan. I’m going to have to look for some suitable pliers, the pair I have is certainly not up to the job.

  5. Nothing special about winding a carbon steel spring other than the fact that they may break especially if old and set. The center eye that fits the arbor is probably sprung on this old spring and since it is a scrap movement, you should take your round nose pliers and practice closing it a bit. Go gently and in small increments. if you can successfully close the center eye without breaking it, it should then fit a MS winder very nicely. RMD

  6. You have to demount the balance wheel/hairspring/stud from the cock. Turn the balance cock over and you will find two TINY screws that you remove to free the jewel setting and the end stone. The regulator arm usually simply snaps onto the setting above the cock. BE CAREFUL and DO NOT BEND the regulator pins and don't lose the screws. Can be a tough job for someone just starting out (not that you are), but you have to learn sometime. BTW, this is not a shock setting for the balance cock. The setting is rigidly fixed and not shock protected. Good Luck, RMD

  7. Yes the boys are right it is the crown wheel bearing, I took some shots for you so the parts will go into correct place. You also have to remember the screw for these parts is left threaded, it will tighten if you turn the screwdriver anti clockwise, rotate to the left. Just a frienly tip, always try to organize the parts in the same way as you took them of use small containers, wash them in the same fashion, being organized and methodical is one of the keys to success. Below is how a small diary could look like... Just snapp and pop with the camera as you go all pictures of the process is valuble in the end.

  12. I guess the pic is just for desplay, are first and second gears in right jewels( place)? Regulator arm is unconventionally close to the stud.

  13. From what I can remember, it fits in so the little tail points up to engage the click.

  14. If you have a casing cushion or something similar place the barrel with the spring on the cushion before you attempt to fit the arbor in. It’s very soft in the middle and you will need this for the arbour to go in all the way. Otherwise your mat/desk will prevent you from pushing the arbor all the way down.

  15. Grab the arbor in a pin vice (or barrel arbor holder, which is a specialized pin vice for just this task), then twist it in, in the opposite direction of winding.

  16. Its a good rule to follow, and one that eliminates many problems related to potential conflicting membership interests--which is primarily watch repair. JC
