  1. Was anyone else up at Upton Hall this week for their exams? I sat the D4 Quartz Servicing exam and also the D1 Watch And Clock Theory exam. I couldn’t get the case suitably waterprooofed for the quartz exam which I blame on the shoddy case/pendant tube and new crown provided. Otherwise, I got the current consumption right down and the movement built nicely. I ran out of time during the theory exam. And that was me going at full speed, obviously. I think I spent too much time drawing keyless works, just because I am so familiar with them. Roddy

  2. I would say that m/spring is wrong it is not high enough and it is tired. You need a new M/spring. You should not remove a clock spring without a m/s winder. If you do by pulling it out of the barrel, you will pull it out of shape. When you put it back, and you wind it. It will wind out of shape; it could cause the clock to run poorly causing bad regulation, even rubbing inside the barrel.

  3. Hi, I have a vostok with a 2414 winding movement. Don't know much about watch repairs but was trying to change the dial to a different one. When I wound the watch up nothing happened I.e. no movement. But something odd started to happen and I put the seconds hand back on. The watch unwinds very fast with the second hand whizzing round. See video with just the seconds hand on the movement. Can anyone advise what could have gone wrong and how I fix it? Appreciate any feedback and apologies as I have limited knowledge of watches and just attempted to change the dial! Nav 20180519_105119.mp4

  4. You'll notice on the battery lots of writing to avoid confusions. So the numbers 1620 is a size 16 mm in diameter 2.0 mm thick for lithium battery this is very common. But notice the additional writing on the battery in an attempt to get you to put the right one in. The word rechargeable and lithium-ion. Mixing primary batteries with rechargeable batteries isn't really the best thing to do.

  6. So as you found removing crystals the tool works really nice. Then providing you keep the crystal in the tool putting it back in the case no problem but what if you have a new crystal how do you grab it to put it back in? The other useful purpose of this tool is for inserting crystals. Notice in the attached image that under each number is a protruding circle getting longer as the numbers increase. So when you put the tool on top of the base the numbers will allow you to determine how far the jaws are from the base itself. So crystal is placed on the base the gray plunger is used to keep it in place. The jaws the tool are closed protruding pins let you set the spacing of how much crystal sticks out beyond the jaws.

  7. I applied a bit more force and it appears to be firmly fixed. I can also see some deformation of the shoulder now so I think it's properly on. I followed it with the flat punch and it's all looking good. Thanks.

  8. That is a Lithium 1620 battery . Li-ion 1620 . There are plenty of those around. Can be bought from cousisnuk. A new battery should do the trick.

  11. Nice Rob! We can't get that brand here in the US but my "daily driver" is a Macallan 12 and it work up from there. Also in the US there is a boom of "micro distilleries" that produce some very nice bourbons Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Hello, just read the post from Canthus, I am also a CAMRA member and look forward to April when I think the next festival is in Newcastle. However, I only get a free half pint glass at the festival !!! This is patently unfair. Cheers Vic

  13. Great stuff guys. Just been to my annual pilgrimage to our local CAMRA real ale beer-fest. You get a free pint glass so the cupboard is now getting near full (28 so far). Link below gives list of all ales etc. Never ever had a bad head the day after as no 'chemicals' in the real ale. Now started doing some nice gins but not tempted to mix, hangover assured !! http://www.bentnbongs.com/Home.asp

  14. I do enjoy the local Dark rum here - Sangsom. It's a bit paint-stripper-esque when neat but quite nice in coke. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
