  1. Here is the reply. Sir, it is not a reproduction, and you are barking up the wrong tree. I have been selling clocks for over 40 years, specializing in chinese antique clocks specifically. I own a company in china making reproduction fusee clocks and other famous english and french clocks. I have owned more antique clocks than you will ever think of, and had the largest collection of Chinese antique clocks in the world outside of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It is antique and made in Japan, not china, and a wonderful clock. Not champleve, and not cloisonne, but a beautiful antique clock. I suggest that you do research yourself before you make such inaccurate accusations, a clear case for a libel suit. Keep your thought to yourself until you learn what you are talking about. You are officially blocked from bidding on anything offered for sale from ProClocks from this day forward. A copy of this note has been submitted to ebay. Have a good day, now I highly recommend you start your studies before you put horologist behind your name. Robert Crowder, BA, Edd. DEd Horologist ProClocks, Inc.

  2. I had a vintage quartz that did this from the 1970s. A Tissot. That one could have definitely been modified to do something like this... Isn't there a special magician watch that does this that cna be bought off the shelf ?

  3. If you use a quartz watch on a demagnetizer the desired effect will happen. I'm guessing that you have to somehow get the parts from the demagnetizer somewhere close to the watch to do this... Perhaps if you get the same components but smaller and get it all working... This is what I'm talking about. These are cheap but they're pretty big so can't be hidden.

  4. Take another pic with the balance sitting on top of the balance cock... If the gathering is damaged the pic won't be as nice as the earlier one. The problem with the dangling balance method is that it's a bit fiddly for watches like this Seiko. It's fine for Swiss handwinds where the balance pretty much drops straight in but on watches where the balance is partially covered by a bridge the potential to snag the balance is higher. Anilv

  5. Magnetism does not make more difficult to fit a balance. Also, I recommend that you use petroleum ether or other purified chemical instead of lighter fluid, and do not let the balance dangle on the hairspring.

  6. On the picture it looks to be okay. Sometimes i can't get the hairspring clean enough with lighter fluid. I dip them fast in acetone and blow them with the blower. That usually fix most hairsprings.

  7. Do you have an iPad or an iPhone? In that case, I'd recommend the "LEPSI - Watch MAGNETISM" App. I think it's available for Android as well but don't know how well it would work on your hardware (of course). I demonstrate it on my iPad here.

  8. It's the same balance, the pics were taken about 5 minutes apart. Only thing that had changed was to move the regulator back towards neutral as it was pointed a little to one side. It has been cleaned a couple of times (in lighter fluid and hung on a post with the HS dangling to dry) and demagged several. Maybe I need to buy a compass to check if my demagging is working.

  9. This video shows how Mark Lovick installs the balance. In preparation, make the pallet fork (guard pin) point towards the centre of the movement. The watch repair lessons have a video that shows and explains in detail how to go about it.

  10. The first pic shows a hairspring & balance in good condition. The second pic shows a hairspring that is either contaminated, magnetised or just damaged.Where the last coil attaches to the end stud has been bent inwards see pic. I would remove clean with a de- greaser, de-magnatise and install again before any manipulations.

  13. I bought a USB microscope but I had a lot of issues with lighting and i couldn't look at pinons for oil. Good for taking pictures but it had it limits. Today i bought a vintage Spencer microscope. It's pretty dam old but it came with the original box and it's in nice condition. It looks like it's made from solid brass and the knobs are just a joy to turn. It's definitely not as good as modern ones but it's a lot of fun to use. The working space is non-existent and I literally have one setting I can use before it starts to hit the work piece. But it's nice to have a little piece of American history.

  15. Are these pics of the same balance wheel? If the balance in the first pic (the one from below) is sitting with its pivot in the hole and the second is the same balance then I think the problem is with your technique in installing the balance wheel. Perhaps you could elaborate more on how you get the balance in place? I personally prefer to hold the edge of the balance and balance cock in my tweezers when installing the balance wheel as I find I have more control. Most people tend to let the balance dangle while only holding the cock in the tweezers. Anilv

  16. You cannot over wind a watch or clock. That is an old wifes tail.
