ebay is going to be your best bet. You can also try Uncle Larry's Watch shop. I bought my K&D 600 series for about a 100 bucks and had fun restoring it. Again, Uncle Larry's has a good selection of individual punches. One thing to watch on ebay is the sets that people are selling that are full of doubles or damaged bits left over from sets they buy to complete the set they already have. A great way to clean up the stakes is to chuck them up in a cordless drill and use steel wool and then go to 1500 wet dry paper and finally use a quality metal polishing paste. Mine came out looking spectacular, much better than they ever did coming from K&D. The process is gentle enough that I did not change the diameter of the stakes. Use the appropriate caution around the business end of the stakes. You don't want to alter or round off the ends at all. Like yourself, I have to buy used and then spend the time to restore...some times I have just as much fun doing the restoration of the tools as I do using them...

A extremely low amplitude like this means everything is going to look extremely bad. Even for diagnostics you need at least 180 to make any sense of anything. Then the dots we really can't figure out what were seeing which means the timing machine is going to give you faulty numbers. For the fun of it try timing the watch in six positions just because I'm curious to see if it makes any difference at all. Visually how does the amplitude look? Usually on the Chinese machines they have a really hard time measuring low amplitude usually they'll pick out the wrong part of the waveform and give you a much higher amplitude than what the watch is actually doing. So are you actually seeing a low amplitude do you really have a low amplitude?

Not gold unfortunately. The Color is that of 22K and Guess has never manufactured anything in high karat gold, or even low karat to my knowledge. People go to the other "G" brand for that.....Gucci. Additionally, if it were gold it would definitely be hallmarked as its a modern piece not manufactured privately. Im not sure how your father tested it, but if he used the acid test, for a true reading you will have to cut into the ring with the side of a small file to expose the core alloy and place the acid directly on the cut. Regardless its a good looking piece so enjoy it, but alas it can't be resized unfortunately.

As I have stated in other posts take a methodical approach starting with the escape & balance. When the watch is running look at the hairsprings operation i.e. no coils sticking together,is it centred,is it running flat,check its end shake. If 100% OK then move on to the escape check the pallet jewels make sure they are not loose & spotlessly clean,check the escape wheel for damage & end shake. IF OK move on to the going train for free running end shake & all jewels ar clean & not cracked. This method I use seems slow but I speak from experience it,s the quickest way to find a fault/s. As a side note when I assemble a watch I do these checks as I go. It is technically slower but in the end I find it quicker.

I like Elgins I have a couple from the 70's with AS movements and one true American small size 0 class 320 7 jewel from the serial number produced in 1912 recased at somepoint in its life but runs like a trooper and loses about 30 seconds a day now thats not bad for something 104 years old.

Likely a locking agent was used. Heat the the crown briefly with a lighter.

My experience with Seiko hairspring is that if the movement doesn't run or you have to push here and there, it is not a matter of cleaning or demagnetizing rather the hairsping is somehow distorted. Also if you do not have good amplitude and pattern you would be fighting windmills is trying to regulate it. Please post timegrapher pictures.

Shame its missing a part. Plenty of possible donors on Speedtimerkollektion though. I've bought from him before. Good prices and reasonably quick turnaround.
