I have just received a message from the seller, he has offered it to me for £3.50. 

This was my reply. 

You must be joking. I have better things to do with my money then spend it on that pile of crap.

A quick look on ebay. I have found these clocks. Made in china and extremely poor in every way. Do not waste your money. A genuine French carriage clock would never have holes drilled in the bell. Har

The biggest give a ways are very poor finish to the parts if you look at many of these Chinese fakes there is no attempt to polish surfaces that should be if you look at the edges of the plates or any

Haha love the attitude oh, that sounds like me on a good day 👍. I had a good rant on Yema's site three days ago. Yema Superman nearly 400 quid, Yema Superman quartz movement  Ronda 515 less than a tenna. Unbelievable.

Even if he paid you to take it away, then you'd run the risk of being seen with it.  Nah, best to just leave it with him and let him worry about how to get rid of it.  Maybe someone will be nice and send him a shovel.

If you know how you can age things it is very popular in the antique trade with furniture. Not only is the style and type of movement a give away but also the painting on the paneling it is very crude, most likely painted by children. Not sure when this Chinese flooding started in horology but I think it is around 20 years. Why don't you drop the seller a line and tell him what a piece of crap he is trying to sell, offer him the lowest denomination  you have in Australia.

From the description its more like a storage cupboard. What a horrid over the top eye sore. 

Sellers description.

Beautiful and unique piece of Napoleon style grandfather clock. It comes in two pieces, bottom part with three selves included and top part which are body and clock head together, both are having doors and storage with few shelves inside

Yes but think about the practicality of it, if you take the shelves out you can then store your upright hoover in there 👍

There's got to be a better and more practical way to build a clock into a storage cupboard.  Do you suppose the statue on top is part of that thing, or did someone place it up there for show?

I know this is @oldhippy's topic and it is about Carriage Clocks, but here is another clock I found. It would be a bit over a 4 hour round trip, but I can't think of any good reason that I would want to. Or anyone else for that matter.

I suppose at least he is honest and tells you what is missing, but $400? If I remember correctly, a working clock in far better condition than this can be had for half the price.

Maybe the 'not working' bit adds to the vintageness and value?

You could debate this part of the description 'These are complicated and well made clocks' but yes he is being far more honest than most people selling these clocks.

      Well, my fundamental stance is that I want to go in and out without leaving any trace other than a shining, perfectly running movement. So, no scratchings on the inside of the case back lid, no marred screws, no debris, no fingerprints, and so on. That is, my goal is to make it impossible for the FBI to track me down. As a professional, I suppose you might want to keep track of returning watches, but as @JohnR725 mentioned, we can keep detailed computer records without marking the watch at all. That may not be true for every watch, but luxury and COSC-certified movements do have unique numbers. John also says it’s best to leave no sign you were ever there, and I couldn't agree more. Now, suppose the Sea-Dweller I'm working on is one day scrapped, and you want to sell the case-back separately (perhaps the case was destroyed in a plane crash). Then the scribbles on the inside no longer reflect the current movement inside the case. Also, the engraving will likely halve the market value of the case back. It had been "sleeping" for about a week and a half. Yes, the "debris/old lubricant" theory is my hypothesis as well! It will be interesting to see what I find once I have time to start disassembling the movement.

      I've repaired a few of these, having some success with stripping and cleaning the mechanism.  They are so cheap though, its hardly worth the effort in many cases.

      Id love to see how he has the output shaft mounted to this setup, as I have the same rotary stage and stepper in my build.

      If you see at least one thread protruding, or even a half, then you may have a chance using this "tool", but don't squeeze hard. Lot's of patience, and if you notice any signs of loctite or other adhesives, then apply several drops of acetone on top of broken stem. Use heat (hair dryer) also. You should be able gradually turn it counterclockwise, just like i did on this broken Timex stem, which was glued with something like nail hardener. Then you can use an extender to save your broken stem. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/513DVvkfW5L.__AC_SX300_SY300_QL70_ML2_.jpg   You can also try cutting a small grove / slot on top of the broken stem to use 0.7mm flat screwdriver.   Depending on the Crown material and Stem material, you can try dissolving the stem.
