Hello from the coast of Rhode Island

I'm Joe and completely new to this possible hobby.  Nearing the end of my career as an executive in the business world and contemplating what I may like to do to fill my time.  I play guitar and sing in a rock band and have built my own amplifiers, done my own repairs, etc.  I also spent several years when I was in my early-20's tying flies and got pretty good at it.  Thus, I believe I have a reasonable mechanical aptitude and good fine motor skills :-)

My grandfather was an excellent mechanic and repaired clocks as a hobby - my grandparents had a house full of antique American clocks that he'd fixed up.

I've been buying a few odd watches here and there and now I'm reading "Watch Repair for Beginners: An Illustrated How-To Guide for the Beginner Watch Repairer" by Harold C. Kelly and watching service/repair videos on YouTube.

Getting ready to take the plunge and purchase a few of the basic tools needed to open and look inside the inexpensive watches I've got hanging around.  So I'll be looking for the topic concerning basic tools right away.

Glad to be here and looking forward to meeting all of you in the forum.

Welcome Joe!

I'm reasonably local, in CT. A bit further down the rabbit hole than you, but sounds like we have similar backgrounds (I made custom guitars for a few years and have been playing Drums for over 40)

Feel free to reach out! This is a great community here. Very helpful!
