Heavy Duty Lem Back Opener.

Recommended Posts

My latest acquisition from Fleabay for £41 is an LEM screw case back opener. It was in functional but poor condition when I received it, but after a good clean and minor refurbishing it looks the business. It will fit screw backs up to about 45mm with the standard x6 square notch screw backs. It is built like the proverbial brick sh-- house so should deal with the tightest of backs.

No luck but I found a pricey solution forced on me...I broke my old one! It is unbelievable or maybe my Taekwondo years are paying off, using only my hands - mind me, bare hands -- and really pushing it I broke the metal jaws of a Swiss tool: on one hand the case holder, on the other hand this tool which I broke where the arrow is pointing (clean off the center of the jaw, not the tip, I should have taken a picture):

Not an easy feast mind you! It was solid metal! The watch is still not budging. Some special oil over night then, while making soup in a pressure cooker, put the watch on the lid to "warm" it up, then in the fridge to "cool" it down quick, repeat, still not budging! I'll post a picture later. Finally I broke the tool trying to open it. Damn Seiko screw on back!

New machine, still processing at the post office:

Tool + attachments = $$$$ you don't want to know ( and much less to let my wife find out!) :hot:

Cheers,

Bob

Morning Geo,

I just spotted this on eBay and thought of you;

181617709288

It looks like it's a set of additional inserts or adaptors for your U-boat case opener. Absolutely no use to anyone unless they have the rest of it, which you do.

Just thought you might be interested.

Wow!

Some things are meant, thanks for the heads up Marc, I really do appreciate it.

Now bought and paid for.

If you ever have a watch back that is as tight as vintage rifle barrel to unscrew, just give me a call. :-)

Hi Geo, Nice Buy. You do not see many of these Japanese jobs around. I only know 3 guys with them you are number 4. I have the manual if you require a copy let me know.

Mine is 40 years old in good condition used nearly every day and the steel jaws are still perfect. I have manufactured different lug plates mainly to accommodate TAG cases.

It got beat the other day for the fist time :( a Breitling 13 sided 26mm Quartz on so tight it managed to force the jaws back enough to slip the flats.

Enjoy.

A warm welcome to the forum Terry and thank you for the comments regarding the LEM case opener.

I had no idea that it was Japanese, I've trawled the net and found nothing about it whatsoever. I would be most obliged if you could furnish me with a copy of the instructions. I'll send you a PM with my address.

This is a great forum with lots if very helpful guys from all sorts of backgrounds, I do hope you post some of the work you get up to and join in with the fun. :)

    • if you're trying to keep track of conversations scattered all over the message board emails are an absolute must.   looking at the bell icon on the top of the page versus the emails today it looks like I got the correct amount of emails. So making some minor change based on the one of the images up above I started getting notifications again. But at times I still have a suspicion that something isn't quite right. I have some feeling that the message board may delay sending emails until something so seems to be a long delay between when you get your emails just a weird feeling things aren't quite right oh  and then even though I do seem to be getting emails I no longer get notifications of personal messages I don't find that out until I arrived at the message board where I'm pretty sure I used to get notifications of those two. So something is definitely changed on the message board. then for everyone not getting emails you do want to check your spam folder. I have found that sometimes were open up an email the system I use warns me that it thinks the email is evil and bad and I have no idea why he thinks some of the emails are and some are not. But this is actually the program I use not the email system which also has a mind of its own as to what it considers spam so you should always check your spam folder.
