What is everyone's favorite method for polishing plexi crystals?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

What is your favorite way/method for polishing plexiglass crystals? (ie paper, wheel [what size?], microfiber, comp, etc)

Does anyone use lacquer for the deeper scratches to 'fill in'?

Cheers,

Zach

Depends on how deep the scratches are, I've had no problems starting off with medium-fine to fine emery paper or roebuck (garyflex) if it's in bad shape to level out the worst of the scratches, then switch to brasso/polywatch to get the smoothness and clarity back.

I've used Polywatch for the first time today on an acrylic crystal (I'm not sure of the difference with plexiglass). It works for marks and microscratches but it would be a challenge for anything deeper. Beside cost, the tube is very small and goes fast, there must be something better in that sense.

I use Solvol Autosol metal polish for polishing metalwork and acrylic watch crystals, it does a great job. If the the crystal is badly scratched I flatten it first with 600, 800 then 1200 grit wet or dry abrasive paper before polishing.
