  3. Merry Christmas all. One of the brilliant things about this site is not only the great help and advice but it is truly global. All colours, creeds, beliefs etc are represented and that's great. So again Merry Christmas all irrespective of your beliefs or lack of .

  4. Christ teaches us humanity, I have always enjoyed celebrating Christmas along with my Christian friends, have many jeweish friends too. How Saadi defines humanity is in full agreement with teachings of Christ. A literal translation of Saadi's poetry Human beings are members of a whole in creation of one essence and soul. You who feel no pain at suffering of others , it is not fitting you be called human Christmas is covered by blood this year.

  5. I'm with you oldhippy, not a fan of xmas (which started as the winter solstice, before it was hijacked by the religious lot). But at least the days are getting longer. More daylight to enjoy the wind and rain Seasons greetings to all. Mine hasn't arrived yet Waggy. Santa is running late. You did send me one ?

  7. I love Christmas time, although there's not an iota of religiousness or spiritualism in me. Here's hoping that 2024 brings peace, love, understanding and some optimism for the future to us all.

  9. OK...more like a "place" than a "center." I will be spending half my time here, so I needed some way to do horology. Since Accutrons need a subset of my tools, and I have about 50 to work on, I decided that I could setup to do just Accutrons here. I still need a cleaning setup...working on that! I have the microscope, test set, and the hand tools. Today, I took an Accutron that was not working, opened it up, adjusted the index and got it running. It needs a cleaning, but I was proving the tool set to see if anything was missing. Hopefully I will solve the cleaning methodology over the next couple of weeks.

  10. Hi Ross. @JohnR725 has done the job for me. The link John has provided to Martin Catt is the one and contains all the plans ( printabl) for you. Thanks John and Merry Christmas to you. Making resolutions is half the fun the other is breaking the.

  11. Yes you're going to have to make a New Year's resolution to get a life and not spend so much time here oh wait, I suppose that means I'd have to make the same silly New Year's resolution of having a life and spending too much time here so just forget about that silly thing everyone has to have a hobby. It's a secret code word you need the secret decoder ring to grasp its meaning. It's a reference to something forbidden at least by a horological Association Which is explained in the paragraphs on the webpage. http://www.pocketwatchrepair.com/catt/pwr-supply.php Here's another example of something similar. Then if you didn't have the Bulova holder for electronics they do make nice small clips that will clip on to the watch itself without a problem. Because that's typically what I do with my power supply just don't have a picture of the clips that I'm using but I see if I find something https://electric-watches.co.uk/accutron-test-meter-mark-3/ Here's what I'm using what I work on electric watches their very nice and tiny and providing you have really lightweight wire that don't pull on anything but basically any of the really tiny microbe grabbing for electronics would work Here's a link to all kinds of places you can buy them from then you do want to buy them into separate colors C keep track your plus and minus so typically that The red and black https://www.pomonaelectronics.com/products/test-clips/micrograbber-test-clip-do-it-yourself-available-ten-colors

  12. There seems to be a very common “bah humbug” vibe amongst watch fiddling old men I’m the same Tom

  13. Not that I will work on a quartz watch. Bur what you said sounds interesting. Do you have a photograph of your unit, or al least a link for the YouTube 'Catt'. I can't find anything under the name of Catt that gives information about watches. Hope your having a good Christmas. I was just putting my Christmas presents, tools, away and decided to look at the forum. Sad I know.

  14. Not a big fan of it either, loved it when my kids where little. Are we all humbugs ? Just another name for grumpy old men that sit in room by themselves surrounded by tools they barely use . Thank you all and appreciate all the help , advice and knowledge that was gained from everybody this year. Every single one of you are absolute gems, dont let anyone tell you any different, Merry Xmas

  15. Hi use an independent power supply easy enough to make, using a battery 1.5v or a dual purpose one that caters for 3v as well. Made one my self like the Bulova one but then improved on it by building a test unit by a chap named Catt from the net which is very good.

  19. Bulova once made something perfect for this movement holder that you can attach a battery like this Otherwise you have to make your own battery holder and a variety of tiny electrical clips work just fine.

  21. You can do a simple test to check if the electronics are basically working. You only need a 1.5 volt battery, a multimeter and a couple of clip leads. Connect the clock movement, battery and multimeter (set to a low milliamp current range, we are trying to see short 2 milliamp pulses), in series, being careful to get the polarities right. Once connected, there should be zero current shown on the meter (a few microamps perhaps, but way less than a milliamp). Then start the balance oscillating. If the meter shows any current activity the electronics are probably ok. If you see no indication of current flow then either the transistor is dead or one or one of the coils is open circuit. If the drive coil was shorted you might see current pulses but I think that would be fairly unlikely. When running properly you would see a series of pulses abound 20 msec long, 200 msec apart, each of about 2milliamps. On an analogue (moving coil) milliammeter you should see some flicks from the needle. On a digital meter the digits will probably jump around. I have an oscilloscope and just measure the voltage across a 22 ohm resistor in series with the battery when testing. This has the advantage that the shape of the waveform gives me a good indication whether there is adequate amplitude in the balance swing. Someone else has posted ATO-MAT info on the forum, in the "All things Clocks" area. Have a look at there. I think he posted circuits too.

  23. No its not , bought it as a non runner, and suspect some watch destroyer has been at it, perhaps should tag it as a donor, but I wouldn't know which part is good which bad . The picture I posted is from internet, mine doesn't look half as good. Rgds

  26. I have untagged assortments of staff for cylinder escapement, might have the one you need. Just between the two of us matey, I can cheat and hide one in an airmail envelope to avoid paying international shipping charges. Been planning to identiy and tag them, there must be published reference charts, wonder if this chart is of any help. https://pocketwatchdatabase.com/reference/balancestaffs Rgds

  27. There is a Moebius oil called TH7-SC specifically designed for the lubrication of plastics: chrome-extension://oemmndcbldboiebfnladdacbdfmadadm/https://www.moebius-lubricants.ch/sites/default/files/security_sheet/tinf_th7_en.pdf However, on an ETA chronograph such as the 7750, there is a part called an hour counter lock made of plastic that isn't lubricated, as it is made of nylon, therefore lubrication isn't needed. Alternatively, you could use silicon grease that won't degrade the plastic. It has to be pure silicon. Alternatively, vaseline will work.

  28. I found a slightly better image from a different Dupont watch, which looks more like what you've got there to my eye: Not sure if that's helpful--I can't read much on it beyond the serial number. Edit: ah hah! I thought that said 1601. From here, listed as a "Tchaïka 1601". And I feel like I've seen that hallmark before...yes! Here at Watchuseek forums, listed as a Soviet era Vostock And here is some more info on a Chaika 1601A movement, which looks right to me.

  29. An S T Dupont - Paris - "Dupont" 17 Jewel small dress watch is on its way. Possibly gold plated, but.. who knows. This is another 404 club candidate. Described as a non runner, I have no idea what ails it, nor what makes it run, but the sub 404 club price means that finding this out wont be too fiscally painful. The listing also states "..Japanese made with stainless steel back, shock proof and Full Lever movement foreign...", but this is after all an ebay listing, so some, all, or indeed none of this may be true. If true, then possibly a Seiko or Citizen movement. Time will tell. EDIT: I found a couple of steel/white metal cased versions, and this might be what is inside. Can anybody identify the movement from my terrible picture? It does look pretty familiar. Maybe a Bostok 2605 EDIT2: http://www.ranfft.de/ appears to be down at the moment, so my ability to check and compare is limited.

  30. I have been helping a guy identify and value some watch/clock stuff he inherited. In exchange, he sold this to me for $100. Pretty cool. Does not work on Accutrons...lol. But I will get back to pocket watches soon enough.
