  1. Just finished making yet another balance staff. The big problem I had was that after I Jacot to pivots down to size, the balance itself was slightly warped causing the balance to rub against the palate fork plate. I managed to straighten it using caliber and fingers. Works well now. Fun day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  2. It seems that the Auto is not functioning correctly. I used to get this issue until I started using 8951, Fixodrop (Epilame) for the reversing wheels and auto parts. I also have a rotary watch tester that I run auto's on for 48 hours just to double check all is OK. I believe Eta recommend another solution for their reversing wheels but sorry can not remember it's name.

  3. No do not learn on Timex as their movements are very different and very difficult to put back together. Instead get a few 17 jewel movements to learn on. You will find the engineering of the parts to be much better and once apart they go together much easier. Pocket watches are another good learning movement because the parts are big.

  4. JohnR725 would you have a link to the whole document by any chance? It is the Omega technical instruction if I am not mistaken, I have been looking for this one without any luck...

  6. Thanks, I shall have a look, I have an Epub copy of "maintaining and repairing mechanical watches" but it doesn't cover this level of detail

  7. Best of luck resolving this out of court.

  8. Hi, I'd rather not give full details at the moment as it might yet have to go to court, but it involves them damaging the case, then a "refurbishment" to remedy the damage which went wrong..... Carl

  9. Bestfit online is nice but sometimes the physical books are nicer. So 594 is listed as non-Incabloc. Then the problem with finding the size of the staff is you have to have an idea of how long it is. So I've attached images for the 594 staff size and the equivalent balancestaff.com staff and its size. Then one of the problems with aftermarket replacement staffs even if they're made for a specific watch is they tend to vary a little by size. Usually there physically bigger to allow you to reduce things to fit. It's why the length isn't that important the pivots can be longer and then you can just shorten those. So it's always important with balance staffs to measure what you are taking out and comparing to what you put in to avoid unpleasant surprises. Then because of the confusion I'm also listing of the Bestfit Incabloc number and its size just so you can compare to whatever. 10. Measure as best you can. I purchased a balance from Balancestaffs.com and it was the wrong size. Its not their fault though...these older movements are difficult to source parts for. I looked up on J Borel and BestFit MATSYS and they both say 100/594 balance staff, but I can't fine the dimensions. If the Ronda is easier for you to get, then go with the 2796.

  11. Make sure the chiming and strike side are wound up. Westminster chime scale on the quarter past it chimes down the scale it also does that on the third and last part of the quarter too. So you need to loosen the screw that the red arrow is pointing at. Now where the green arrow is pointing, rotate that drum anti-clockwise until the hammers have gone down the scale, we will have that as the quarter past. Put the minute hand on at that point, so it is pointing at the three on the face of the dial. Tighten up the wheel. Move the hand to the half past and the hammers should operate. Make sure before the warning and after the chiming that none of the hammers lift, if any are you will need to loosen the wheel and move it by one tooth. At the quarter two on the last part of the chiming sequence, it will chime the same as the quarter past. You need to test it many times to make sure the hammers are behaving.
