  1. Thought I’d show off a watch project that I have been working on. Wanted to create vintage inspired watches. Tell me what you think so far!

  2. You would have to remove the wheel and pivot for that, under the calendar plate. In fact, the "24 hrs indicator" is something that replace the regular calendar (day/date wheel) work on the other mov.ts of the family. The most practical end economical way to make a time only Seiko-based watch is to use a NH35 or NH36 mov.t.

  3. Great work indeed JD. The shimming of the balance is common and I think some makers such as Poljot fit them as standard. PS your not bad on the guitar as well

  5. Well, I discovered the problem and I am sorry to say that it was caused by my lack of skill. Given the information received from everyone, the problem seemed to point to the pallets, or a single pallet. I knew they were not cracked but I removed the fork and took a closer look and saw that there was some oil on the top surface of the exit jewel, which made me think that I may have put too much oil on the jewel as well as a poor job of oil placement. I cleaned the fork once again and placed it back without re-lubricating and got a nice clean trace!! After cleaning the whole movement and parts once again, I carefully oiled the exit jewel and still have a nice clean trace on the TG. Success. The moral of this story: Get better at oiling pallets! Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

  6. I picked a box of watches...maybe 30 total (have not counted) at a resale shop for $20. So that is less than a buck a piece. The majority are quartz and some interesting ones at that. The ones I tested so far are working. But the big find was the fake Rolex. I opened it up and it has an ETA 2834 movement and it is running!! Also picked a Caravelle with a Bulova 11DP movement. There was a 14k rose gold plate bulova lady's watch lurking at the bottom of the box. There was this funky mirror-faced LED watch. LOL The 2834 (-x) seems to be a popular movement so I may be able to get another dial and case for it. Researching.

  7. That's a gem, the k815, an early Memovox type movement. I have worked on several k825 movement and the only issue that may need special attention is the release of the alarm hammer. Here is a breakdown of parts from WatchGuy that you may not have seen. He has more on his web site. https://watchguy.co.uk/cgi-bin/library?action=show_photos&wat_id=3573 He also gives price estimates for work done in the UK.

  8. If you're in Florida check out Earnest Tope, a true watchmaker who makes parts (any parts) and also just cleans and adjusts vintage or current movements. I don't know who he's affiliated with at the moment but can vouch for him. He serviced Ted Crom's collection, which is about the best CV/résumé one can have. Also, Florida is pretty big. Sending watches by (registered) post for repair was already the norm 20 years ago, so even if he's far, no worry.

  9. It looks funny to me that the day indicator isn't level with the date indicator. I've never worked on an ETA 2834-2, but I have experience with an ETA 2836-2. You'll find my service walkthrough of it here if it's of any help. Anyway, here are two pictures from that service walkthrough:
