  1. At our last house someone called the cops as I was brewing beer. Said I was making moonshine- cops come asked a couple of questions and showed up a few hours later when their shift was over with beers to learn how to homebrew! I showed those neighbors!

  2. There is something very relaxing, maybe reassuring about the sound of this relatively loud Pin Pallet Newmark watch. I picked it up on eBay some years ago in a non working state and discovered as usual that the balance pivots and hair spring were to blame. Anyway, a similar movement came up for grabs and luckily the balance and hairspring were fine. The old newmark received a donor kidney and is now ticking away beautifully. Mind you, my wife says it drives her mad! I’m told these were manufactured at Croydon, in Kent England, adjacent to the now defunct airport. I’m not certain though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. My father recently asked if I would service his wrist watch which he bought from the NAAFI at RAF Akrtiri in Cyprus during his national service days. The watch came to me as ticking, but the oil on the keyless works had gummed up like tar, making it almost impossible to wind without fear of doing some damage. Anyway, here are a few before and after photos. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. For the most part, Cops are just regular guys, whose job its is to keep the peace and collect revenue.Your nosey neighbors called, so they had to respond, and trust me those guys are still telling that story.

  5. The old Valjoux 7750 rotor has 7 balls from what I've seen. These have a pressed/riveted bearing, unlike the modern version with the bayonet fitting.

  6. Homebrew? AND watches? That's almost as good as alcohol tobacco and firearms.

  7. I have a couple of Newmark branded watches. They seemed to do quite a range over the years. From what little I can gather of their history, they were more of a watch importer and seller latterly, but they did put together quite a number of interesting watches. Mainly their offerings were at the affordable end of the spectrum, which in a way makes them more interesting from a historical point of view. Not everybody could afford a Rolex, but brands like Newmark, Timex, Saxon and others were more indicative of the zeitgeist. These brands and styling are very much of their time, and that, to my mind is a major part of their appeal.

  10. 1. CDG (Cote De Geneve) is the striped finish on the rotor. 2. Some might have been stamped with VAL before it was integrated in the Swatch Group (ETA) 3. Clones are made in Asia and some spare parts. Otherwise the history is in this link. https://www.watch-wiki.net/index.php?title=Valjoux_7750

  11. Hello Nucejoe. I discovered through trial and error with old scrap watches that a laundry product branded as ‘shout’ in the UK works very well as a dial cleaner. I spray on and leave about a minute for the surfactant to do its work. There is no requirement to agitate the surface. After the minute, straight into a bowl of lukewarm water to dissolve the surfactant, then another bowl of warm water to ensure no trace is left. I then absorb excess water and and dry in a stream of warm air. Of course it cannot work magic and restore any damage but at least all the oil is removed. Unfortunately the lume dots are still dull and don’t work, but that’s another skill I need to learn [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. Congrats from me too. I don’t have parts but hey, I’m jealous of you having a home brew and watch repair area so I wouldn’t share if I did, nah-nah-na-na-nah! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  16. Drive the tube into the case, instead of filing the tube, you would need to polsih the tube if you file, just so it wouldn,t tear the rubber seal in the crown. The screwdriver shown in the pic next to your watch is the tool you need. Insert the screwdriver in the tube, its handle wont enter the tube, tab on the screwdriver on its head to dirve the tube in. Another approach is to drop bits of metal in crown hole where stem screws in, bits of solder, aluminm foil, screw the crown on stem.

  17. I made a new frame for this clock, sort of a shadow box so the dial and hands are not open and entered this in a show along with a few other pieces of leather art in a show. If anyone in Toronto is interested the link is: www.bist.ca/art

  18. The most of the 7750 rotors I'we seen has just 5 balls from the factory, guess it's the minimum amount of balls that will make it last for a certain time.(There has to be an aftermarket too.) Then there are some third-party bearings with 7 balls in them, one could say they have upgraded it a bit. I am in no sence involved in Selling these so I put this link here in an informative sence https://www.mps-watch.com/en/products/bearings/prodige.html
