I just got into vintage watches. 

 

Here to learn how to repair them of course!

 

My first project is a simple one, I think. A 1968 Timex Marlin with a broken stem. I was a real noob when I got tis and pulled too hard and it popped out. Hopefully I didn't ruin the movement. Are there places to buy replacement stems that would fit this?

Welcome to WRT.

Could you post a high magnification photo of the stem? Timex stems are quite sturdy and seldom break unless when they are rusted.

A replacement stem would be hard to come by. Try searching ebay. Our resident Timex expert, JerseyMo, might have one. He should be along soon.

Thank you for your introduction and welcome to this friendly forum.

If this is your first in repairing, Timex movements are not a good start, they are unlike most other types of movements. For starters most of the buttons do not screw onto the stem they are pushed on, only timex buttons will fit.

Welcome to the forum      you could try  Obsoleteclockandwatches,com and or weleynwatchparts.co.uk    both sellers of used parts.  As Old Hippy said they push on and are exclusive to Timex.  at the bottom of the dial under the No6 there is a number, this will tell you its model number and when it was made,  If you post this number along with pictures of the movement members will be more able to offer help knowing what they are looking at.     thanks

Oh geez another new guy getting started with vintage Timex!  "curt NJ humor there".   Anyhow, sound like you pulled the crown off the stem. It probably was badly worn and was going to fail anyway.  Is the stem still inside the watch?

here is a marlin I repaired this week.  BTW - the 1961 manual predates the model you have so the diagrams won't match up.

      Yep, i pulled that up as well when i was looking,  there is definitely parts out there if you are prepared to go out and find them.  I watched that video years ago, I'm not so sure about probing the coil like that. If you are going to touch the coil use the side of the probe or at least shape a nice round end to it.

      Hi. In the picture not only does it depict that the wheel is bent but also the plate or is that due to th angle of the picture.  Already received very good advise so I will butt out.
