I love watches.  I had an oris TT1 for almost 15 years.  When the crown wouldn't seat properly I went outside one blistering morning and ended up with condensation in the watch.  I was quoted 2k to fix.  As an engineer when I came across the rusty valjoux video I figured I could accomplish this myself.  Im on my 4th attempt and 4th escape wheel and learning a ton everyday.  I have invested a toooooon as well in money.  LUBES>>>>  Lord have mercy, the lubes are worth more than gold.   Along the way I have participated in several forums.....only to have been met with discouragement and belittlement....until now. Thank you.

Hi bjd, welcome to the asylum, this forum is "the bizz," loads of really knowledgeable people who are happy to help you. They have helped me over the line many times and I have never been made to feel stupid, even if some of my questions have been!:D here there are many people of all abilities, but United in our shared love of watches.

Welcome pardner,

The most belittling comment you're likely to receive on this forum is "have you thought about trying this, mate"? This is a welcoming, encouraging bunch of watch and clock fanatics, many of whom possess some real talent. They seem capable of both abiding and teaching those of us without much ability or talent. Who could ask for more?

Its good to know. There are a couple of guys who have been helpful over there after I stayed persistent. Trust me im all about a little initiation and hazing as a newby. I have the utmost respect for the guys who are experts. I also have a great deal of respect for the body of work. If anyones is interested in reading the drama here it is. If its not allowed please delete.

      Welcome to the forum, enjoy. I have a varimatic that went  out of sequence because it’s hydronic oil ran very low. Must admit it’s still in my garage just know time to fix it. Purchased a cheap Indian Junta/ sonic Pearl as a stop gap a few years ago and it still performs perfectly so no incentive to fix the Varimatic.

      The plate is OK, thanks. It seems the answer to my question is that this is a 'hack' & for me another reminder that in general, one won't be the first person to be tinkering with an old timepiece!. As you day, I've been fortunate to have gotten some good advice and, just as important, encouragement. I've been lucky then not to have the balance spring break as a result of my novice 'ministrations' - but I did remember to 'stroke' rather than bend per se. The clock is of sentimental value to the owner so I'm relieved to have now got it running to time with the support & encourage of forum members like yourself.

      Recently purchased a L&R Varimatic knowing that the piston does not fully rise in the cylinder. The likely cause is air in the system. The manual calls for using a bleeder cup, which is as rare as hen's teeth.Does anyone have any experience with this issue and if so, how did they resolve it?
