  1. I am sickened to think that the Nauga is virtually extinct now. It happened without a whimper from the world. Yeah, save the whale, the Snail Darter, but let the Naugas disappear from the planet. Oh well...

  3. Ok, these ones are bergeon compatible oil holders equipped with bergeon agate stone from Cousins. The one on the right hand side is pallet wood the other two are from trees I cut down in the garden a while ago.

  4. Hmm, hard one to pick for me, I think I gravitate towards the first dial. Comparing with photos online the text is more accurate (see the 'c' at the end of 'Automatic') and in general seems a bit more crisp and defined. The lume on the first dial has also been more carefully applied, lots of running over the lines on the second dial. The numbers in the first dial however are not as sharp as those in the second but the second has quality issues in all 3 numbers displayed, especially the '9'. The date display in the second it a bit nicer, I also tend to prefer the finish of the black on the second dial, a little bit finer than the first. Even given that I stick with my preference of the first dial, the crisper logo and accurate text is probably the most important thing for me. I don't place a huge importance on the aged lume although it is definitely a concern if you asked for it and they did not use it, I would not be happy in that case!

  5. It's a 7-3/4''', Seiko doesn't make that size anymore except for one solar model. If it doesn't restart with a gentle impulse, I believe that most people would just accept the loss. 2620B.pdf

  7. At least you have a sporting chance of knowing what is actually in the Epilame. I did toy with the idea of sampling some watch oils while here in India. However since this is typically what is on offer... ... and since I am some what alarmed by the prospect of an oil that "comes", I decided to give them a miss.

  8. Thanks. Here is another Ingersoll, this time a 17 jewelled movement that I picked up a while back. I can't find any pictures of it after I cleaned and serviced it. These are from the auction listing. As you can see, it is in the form of a tab, pin brooch/fob, or nurses watch, but I may tempted to re-case it in a wristwatch case, as the original case is nothing special, but the dial and hands are very nice. I guess if it had been in a wristwatch case, then it wouldn't have been on the 404 club radar.

  9. My TPU is all 1.75mm. So yeah, probably hexagonal or octagonal (or heptagonal!) cross section here. Hexagonal looks something like: inside_radius=90; belt_width=3.3; $fn=1024; rotate_extrude(){ translate([(inside_radius+belt_width), 0]){ circle(belt_width,$fn=6); } } I'm sure there's a way to make a flat side of a heptagonal extrusion lay flat, but at this late hour I'm not interested in finding it out. My belt will be waiting on the printer in the morning since i already had TPU loaded.

  11. They’ve been making this model on various forms for over sixty years. Is it are recent one, or a classic 166.024?

  13. I made my own container. The basket hangs on a hook inside the bottle. Hold the lid secure and screw in the bottle. It's unsophisticated but it works and is far cheaper than buying that funny little bottle from Moebius. I just had to find a bottle that the epilame wouldn't evaporate from.

  14. Sorry, but no one with respect for their product or their customers ships something non-functional. If they ship movements in this shape frequently, it should be obvious that thay are destroying their reputation and eliminating their own market. There has to be a minimum standard, and a non-functional movement must, by definition, fall below any minimum. This should not have been sold in this condition, except as "non-working" or "for parts only".

  15. I recently decided to try out one of these PT5000 movements. I had been hearing good things and had an appropriate project, so I figured "why not"? The movement arrived fairly quickly from an ebay seller and came packaged in the typical round plastic box. Initial impressions were positive: the plastic box was taped shut, and the overall appearance of the finish was very nice. However, once placed under magnification, my opinion changed. I've seen quite a few Chinese movements, but I've never seen anything so completely covered in crud in my life. I have scrap movements that are cleaner. However, I had to see how it would run, so I wound the movement and set it on the timer. In dial-up position, it actually ran well: -1 sec/day, 270 degrees amplitude, 0.1ms BE. Not half bad. So, I decided to give it a go to see how it would do over time. For about 20 hours, no problem, but then it siezed up and would run no more. Jostling and rewinding had no effect. It was done working. This brand new movement needs to be overhauled before it can be used in a watch! What at first seemed to be a great, well made alternative to the 2824-2 turned out to be a complete waste of time. Check the photos below and you'll see a well made movement covered skin cells, fibers, metallic debris, heavy finger print residue, what looks like bits of food and droplets from someone talking or sneezing all over the movement, and in the oil around the jewels. HK Precision is SO CLOSE to making a great movement, but they utterly blew it on assembly. Such a crying shame!
