  1. Hello there. I have just purchased this Rado watch at a flea market and want to try fixing it, as I see it has no screws but what looks like plastic rivets, and can't see any coil on the movement (unless it's underthe cover). Obviously, I will take it apart but just before doing so I wanted your expert opinion how to go about it. I know that it much easier and cheaper to just change the movement but for me the learning how to repair is more important. On the movement it reads; PC21A Moriko Tokei Japan. Thank you.

  2. Every repair or bat. replacement on a water resistant watch will be tested dry on my ACL2000. If there is a leakage I remove movement and test the case without movement wet to determine the location of the leakage. Mostly a filthy crown package is the guilty suspect.

  3. Dear all...finally i can give an update on my seiko divers 4205. My watchis working well now after changing exact movement that i bought from Perrin, notwithstanding i am not really sure about the authenticity of the movement because the signed Seiko wordings on its rotor isn't as clear as the original (you can see from the picture attached), otherwise it works well. After i tested the watch to run for more than 48 hours to make sure all hands working properly after reassembly, then i decided to also changed the worn out bezel to a black with gold markers. My this vintage watch looks cool now even with both options (bracelet or nato strap) see pictures. Thank you very much for all WRT members whom gave me an input and share your thoughts earlier. Without you all , my project will not reached the goal. Sincerely, Djo

  4. It looks all there to me have a look at this walkthrough the date wheel looks like it is held in place by the dial when attached so would be rather lose when removed http://watchguy.co.uk/service-repair-buler-baumgartner-bfg-158/ It does have some serious rust though on the date jumper which I assume you have now cleaned up

  5. complicated, but interesting design. i don't get many screw back watches that don't yield to the "wooden block" and the "two prong tool".

  6. That is about $4.99 too much. You can buy genuine quartz watches in lots on Y! JP for less than $1 each, all they need is to replace the battery. Or on Ebay from Ramon like many here have done. Granted, you get a pile of junk but at least is authentic or almost.

  7. The hammers hit what is called gongs. What you have is an 8 day floating balance underslung Westminster Whittington St Michaels chime. The style of hands are called Serpentine and the case is a style called napoleon.

  8. A Seiko (Hattori) PC21a is less than 5 GBP on eBay. Just do a search. Cheers Neil Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. Are you good at fitting hands? This is a lot more difficult than re-luming in my opinion. You should not re-lume without removing first.

  10. Hi, Some news. Watch is still with my watch guy. He checked under a loupe a 2824 stem as a replacement for the STP one. Even if they look similar, he still preferred to order a real STP one. As I expected, he has no parts in hand for this movement and will need to order everything, making a rather routine repair job a 2-3 week thing! Thanks! 11. If it's not an expensive watch (BFG usually aren't) then I would try using a cotton bud dipped in vinegar or lemon juice / citric acid. Rub very lightly.

  12. I struggled with getting an IWC T-end spring to fit with my Bergeon winder recently. Just would not land in position as the T-end is sitting within a smaller radius when in the winder. Ended up carefully hand winding.

  13. Date rings are available from cousins at £5.95 so you should be able to replace that if it wont clean up rubbing alcohol is isopropyl it isn't safe on all plastic so could melt the surface of the date ring. If the rust is on the back of the dial you could gently remove it with a contact fibre bristle cleaner if you have one.

  14. If the calendar wheel is brass and plastic it is more than likely that the rust on the underside of the dial has stained the plastic what calibre movement is it ? is replacement not possible. I would not be tempted to do anything other than to try and gently remove it with a swab with distilled water. If you can live with the dial just remove the rust from the underside no need to soak in anything and risk damaging the dial front. Soaking dials in anything is a very bad idea there has been plenty of discussion on dial cleaning on this forum before do a search.
