I am trying to sort out  my Grandsons Omega Seamaster 300 1966.  Non Date. Large Triangle. I wish to fit an ETA 2824 which will go in but the dial fixing pins may have different spacing so this could be a problem. I can probably get over it,  however would it be  OK  just to  remove the date ring on the 2824 ?  This may offer greater clearance. The Omega movement has serious balance issues and would be too expensive to fix and Omega will not supply parts. Any help is gratefully appreciated. Thanks and kind regards, Mike

I am sure you're aware that the watch is an important piece, worth easily $5,000 even with mov.t issues. Not sure what would be the point in replacing the movement with a current one but consider your Grandson could have agreed with the advice you will receive from most collectors and watch lovers: Do not butcher it.  Give to a real expert which will fix it for you. money spent on it will be well worth.

I do not see how removing the date ring will help. Also keep in mind you'll have a mystical winder position that does nothing if you fit a calendar movement to a non-calendar watch.

Thank you Ishima, I appreciate your comments. I will try to find a complete balance and pop it in !. Kine regards, Mike.

Fitting a ETA movement could be problematic in terms of getting it to fit and of course would devalue the watch immensely. If it was me I would identify the balance fault and fix it. If you do not have the experience then just pass it on to a professional.
