I mean...the watchmaker dropped the watch and he said: "don't worry it hit the ground in flat position, that doesn't create problems" ... Pretty shocking in all senses of the word to me. Ofco**BLEEP** this can happen but it is his remark that made me shiver. Also I really am surprised for the time it took for a service, say 4 months...(unless it goes to Switzerland for service which is kinda standard here in the Lowlands as not many watchmakers can get hold of parts) and he wasn't asking any payment...but I hope it keeps on running like it should.

He sounds a bit of a cowboy to me. Definitely one to avoid at all costs.

Ok here's the news, the watch stopped at 15:04 ... strangely it ran for 50 hours and an half.

4 and an half months wasted waiting for this guy to fix the watch.

I am contacting Rolex, I don't see other options at this point.

Send a 1675 to Rolex....Nooooo!

They have a habit of taking lovely vintage dials etc. and replacing them with fugly service parts.

I previously asked what policy they have about this and they said if I want to keep dial and hands I have to tell the service center. Maybe in Italy they are more flexible as I know in USA they'll replace those parts.

    • Thanks for all the replies.  I'll investigate further.  I never noticed the lip and @Michael1962, I think I will have to form a tool to undo the ring and see what happens. I'll see if I can get some more pics.
    • Hi John, The most important parameter of the spring is the thickness. The lenght is something that one would not consider as obligatory, as relatively big variations will not affect anything in significant way. The barrel size is related to the barrel and has nothing to do with the spring. Yes, the spring is designed to work in a barrel and the size of the barrel matters, but let this parameter be chosen by the movement manyfacturer, not by the sping manyfacturer who doesn't have idea in what kind of movement the spring will work. Sometimes the washer in which the spring arrives will be bigger than the barrel and there will be no way to just push the spring in the barrel and be happy. Well, if this is a problem for somebody, then probably He is a person with to many problems that will be verry hard to help to in any way. By the way, why You are changing the spring? Is the old one broken?
    • Lets give it to the end of this month to get all the votes in, then we can call it?

    • I went with 8.90£ because 12th century Italian mathematicians are always excellent topics to bring up when trying to get your guests to go home.
