I wish to share my experience with thyme tea with everyone.

Six months ago when I had my second bout of Covid, my chest was so congested that breathing deeply hurt. Coughing was pure agony. And with a 40°C fever that comes back every 6 hours when the level of paracetamol in the blood falls, I was willing to try anything.

Then I saw this video on YouTube and I decided to give it try. I drank a cup of the stuff and went back to bed. When I woke up about an hour later, I coughed up a golf ball sized lump of greenish-yellow phlegm. And almost immediately, all symptoms suddenly abated. 24hrs later, I was feeling perfectly fine. I repeated an ART test and it was negative.

I started recommending it to some of my friends and many of them found it useful, although some claimed it had no effect.

I had another round of Covid last week. I tested positive on Thursday and although the symptoms were very mild, I drank a cup of thyme tea just to play safe. And by Friday evening all symptoms were gone. I repeated an ART test and it was negative.

If any of you read this, try it out the next time you get Covid or the flu. Let me know your experience with thyme tea.

@watchweasol, you might like to take note of this.

I have watched quite a few videos from this guy he seems to know what he's talking about. But thats really interesting Hector, i much prefer alternative medicines, especially holistic that treat root causes of the problem that relate directly to an  individual rather than just treating general symptoms . Thanks Hector i will definitely try this as i suffer with chest problems quite often. Did you make this yourself using fresh thyme or was it a retail brand ?  A good book to read on this is "grow your own drugs by James wong "

Cool, i was just about to eat breakfast but I'm thinking i will leave it a couple of hours now 😅.  Sounds like the tea has loosened things up in your chest, this might be just specific to you. Lemon cuts through mucus for a lot people. Diary products can also cause mucus, milk does this to me very quickly in the morning. Something i have tried thats very simple is sucking on vitamin C tablets as soon as i feel a sore throat coming on, the big 1 gram vit. C type. When i have done this say 2 - 3 times in a day, nothing comes of the sore throat, which disappears .Most bugs dont like the acid environment in your mouth.

No. I used the dried thyme I had in my cupboard. I think it was Masterfoods.

Never heard of it. I don't intend to try it. The best thing I have used and my late mother used it on me when I was a child was vicks vapor put some in a bowl with hot water put a towel over you head and bowl and breath in the vapor.

Thats a good old style remedy that has decongestants like eucalyptus and anti bacterial camphor, the heat also helps to loosen up the crap. Olbas oil is also good for clearing out the nasal pasages throat and chest.

Surely still better than what might be a processed shop bought brand .

My 2p worth.  Thyme tea may be wonderful stuff.

I'm a scientist at heart. I believe in the "Scientific method". I worry that people fall for the "Naturalistic fallacy" - just because something is "natural" they think it is better than something "processed".  Nature is not cuddly and friendly. It is out to kill and consume you.

I don't understand people who prefer a "raw" product, just because it is "natural". It may contain any amount of active/dangerous chemicals, possible poisons, carcinogens (as seen is some Chinese medicines) etc. I prefer 'real' medicine, where the active ingredients are identified and synthesized. It is rigorously tested to prove that it works (not just a placebo as a lot of 'alternative' medicine is), and is shown to be safe.

I'll stick to the processed drugs thanks.

I keep it simple,I'd sooner trust nature than the money making pharmaceutical industry lol.

Ricin is natural, I  wouldn't suggest using it.

One of the most toxic nerve agents developed is VX. The median lethal dose for an adult is 6-10 milligrams. That's milligrams!!

But good old mother nature, where everything is wonderful and safe, can top that by some margin.

Botulinum toxin has a median lethal dose of 1-2 nanograms. That's about 5000x more toxic than VX.

You mean the "money making  pharmaceutical industry" who save millions of lives every year ?

In the 20th Century it is estimated about 300-500 million people died of smallpox. Due to scientific research, a vaccine was found, which led to the total eradication in 1977.  If we 'trusted nature', millions would still be dying every year.

This thread is going to split options, I'm on the pharmaceutical side.  Some drugs are artificial, some are extracted from nature and improved and/ or refined.

I can't see any issue with the thyme tea if it makes you feel better.

I agree entirely Richard. Most drugs are initially extracted from plants. An infusion made from brewed malted barley and hops makes me feel great. And  a brewed barley distillate even better 🤣

Very diplomatic Richard, I'm on the side of dropping a very controversial subject 🙂

Botulinum toxin

Thinking of natural substance isn't anthrax natural? Okay true it's been enhanced by people for chemical warfare but at its base is a natural product?

One of the problems with natural is that perception is it's harmless. In other words if it wasn't harmless you have to go to a doctor get a prescription it come with cautions warnings and typically natural does not. So the perception would be natural can be harmless where unfortunately that is wishful thinking. Often times dosage strength of natural can vary.

We really should break this discussion up in the three categories? Categories like stuff from pharmaceutical companies. Natural products that people take as a substitute or replacement for a pharmaceutical product. Then the natural feel-good products that are probably for the most part harmless.

I propose something that all right minded people can agree on Rich:  that barley, hops and yeast, are natural, safe, and indeed essential to life and well being.  Cheers mate 🤪

    • 🤔 it runs from AC  electric. Perhaps a picture would better explain my set up, if you laugh i won't speak to you again 🤣 . Prepare to be blown away, are you ready ?
    • I cleaned the balance and pallet fork with hexane and a brush as well as peg wood for the spring. The spring which were on the main plate went into the regular cleaning: ultrasonic in lighter fluid for wash ultrasonic in lighter fluid for rinse 1 ultrasonic in IPA for rinse 2 Dried out with hair drier But the movements in this case were really unbelievably dirty.  I'll add picture today or tomorrow when I have my sd card reader and can extract them from the microscope camera.  Like if they had spent some time buried in the woods outside of a case so I am not sure that learning to clean such is really actively useful.
    • Hello, if you have seen some of my posts since I started in this forum you know that I am new to watch making and I have had my share of mishaps but I think here is an accurate statement of where I am: 1) I think I can disassemble and reassemble an ST36 correctly without damaging the hairspring or loosing parts (most of the time) 2) I think I can clean a movement which is reasonably dirty (a new movement or one like the 6T15 I worked on which has 15 year old lubrication but no actual dirt or water ingress). 3) I have an idea of how to lubricate a simple movement but not practiced much and I am pretty sure I am messing it up 4) I made a watch out of an ST36 and parts.  I messed up doing the same for an NH35 as I cut off the wrong dial feet (I swear I checked which I needed to keep and then somehow cut those off).   Here are the different things I did to learn (mostly in order) Learned to disassemble and reassemble the ST36 and broke the setting lever screw and messed up royally the hairspring in doing so.  I have had some success correcting some of the hairspring mess then made it worst when trying to completely correct it.  I have put repairing hairspring aside for a bit Disassembled and reassembled a cheap Chinese skeleton 2650G movement with center second Disassembled and reassembled a cheap Chinese Date, automatic and center second movement DG2813 ( mostly a Miyota clone for the base movement and automatic works but different for the date) almost successful but lost the spring for the date jumper Disassembled cleaned reassembled and lubricated a 15 year old 6T16.  Nothing lost nothing broken but the movement is working worst than before with a crazy timegrapher reading.  This came from a watch I haven't put it back in yet Disassembled cleaned and gave up on reassembling 2 junk slava 2414 movements coming as part of a set of broken soviet movements     So finally here is my question.  What do you think I should work on/practice next?   In term of available movement I mostly have a new ST36 and a new NH35.  I was thinking about practicing more with the ST36 trying to correctly clean and lubricate it.  I also thought, now that I have a working microscope camera and I should have a reader for the SD card soon I can not only take pictures but videos.  If I filmed the process and posted it would it be too much to ask for comments on what I should do different/better and what I am doing correctly?  I could try to do that with the NH35 too but with the date and automatic works it will be more complicated and I only have Moebius 800 and Molikote DX so no lubrication for the barrel.
    • Those springs are not the easiest to deal with for beginners. How are you cleaning them and what with ?
    • Thank you. We shall see. What's the spec and wattage of your motor? Is it DC or AC?
