Hello All,

I am new to this forum but I did look around it a bit when I was looking into watch tools and getting started. I have acquired a few Seiko 7009 movements to get some practice working with Seiko before I tackle a Seiko Sea Lion M44 that I bought.

However, since I have several movements, I thought it would be nice to piece together two watches with the two cases I have.

I am having some issue sourcing/identifying the case components. In the attached image you can see two cases. The numbers on them are 7009-875J (left) and 7009-8599 (right). For the 875J, I believe the crystal and the O-ring need to both be replaced but I cannot find a suitable replacement on CousinsUK. The closest I have found was for a 7009-8750 case, which has a chrome ring that I did not find when I took the crystal off this case.

For the 8599 case, I found the XAC311.652 Sternkreuz, Seiko 310T49ANS0 on CousinsUK which seems like a fitting replacement.

Additionally, I have several movements, but I do not have the movement holder rings used to settle the movement into the case. I saw in a post by  @Waggy (

) that he has created CAD files for the movement rings, but I was wondering if those rings are universal for all 7009 movement and case combinations. Even if those work, I do not have a 3D printer, so I was wondering if there is anywhere else I could source them.

maybe you need a Seiko casing guide which I would normally attach with the file sizes really big fortunately if you do a search you might find a link like this

finding casing parts for older watches can be a challenge because the watch companies do not necessarily keep the parts for all the watches they ever made because the volume of parts to be so huge they probably don't a warehouse anywhere on the planet they keep all of them.

then there's another problem that affects acquiring parts are often times watches were destined for specific markets. This means they won't stock those case parts in other countries is that country is never going to get that case for instance. We also end up with a lot of Japanese Seiko watches that were never meant to leave Japan and getting anything on those is impossible even trying to find a tech sheet for some of the vintage stuff is basically impossible

Very much appreciate the welcomes and suggestions.

Hi there, there are a few types, but I put them all on thingiverse, just check under my profile.

I will most definitely be checking these out. I was thinking about doing this before I turned to the forum, but even then, I do not have a 3D printer. This could be a good excuse to get one and it seems there are a fair amount of tools and components that could be pretty easily 3D printed.

I really appreciate the linking to this post. Upon some quick review I couldn't find any information pertaining to the 7009 cases I was looking for. I see case information for 7009-500 though 811 but nothing passed that. I am hoping there is some amount of compatibility between cases of the same movement so if I can find a similar style case with crystals in stock, maybe I can squeeze a fit.

I need three for my Grand Seiko

I was asking my material house once for something Seiko related and give it to any of the upper end lines basically know she cannot get them and don't even think about asking about the grand Seiko. I believe grand Seiko has a website and even the normal Seiko site in this country where there do the repairs you get pricing for all your watches if you look at the pricing it says anything grand Seiko goes to Japan. So my guess is if you need case parts or anything else for grand Seiko you're going to have to go to the grand Seiko website and ask nicely because that's going to be the only way.

the watch has to go to Japan whereas all I need is links to its bracelet

I don't think it has to go to Japan at least I wouldn't send that there. You should be able to give them the case number and whatever numbers you have off the band and perhaps a picture of it and explain that you just need some links and see if they'll help you out.

interesting? Quite a while ago I was inquiring with my local material house about a gasket for particulars Seiko data watch and the answer we got back from Seiko was send it to us. Which of course I was not going to do and basically the reason why was because they didn't have a gasket and they would fit it. I wonder if maybe grand Seiko is going to fit a new band or something?

It is kind of unacceptable customer service isn't it for something that nice inexpensive

    • Same show.different vendor. $1US plus battery and polished the crystal and wiped the case. Added the spring bars and strap, which has a small cut that needs glue.  This one has a hatch to change the battery and hand setting and hack crown is on the back! Rubber strap replaced with the brown leather with the cut. It's a West Germany dial.
    • Hi All, I started this forum over 10 years ago and never intended for it to me a 'for profit' concern. Since then, I launched an online course and I draw funds from that business in order to fund this website. There is also a little bit of funding from Google ads but I don't rely on it because they keep changing the goalposts. The forum costs a few hundred pounds per month to run and Im comfortably managing it. Why a few hundred pounds? I am OCD about backups and not relying on a single company to host those backups, I use amazon S3 to backup hourly and daily, I also use Digital Ocean. I use a separate mail service to handle the serious amounts of emails sent from the site, I am on here most days admin'ing and updating the site or servers/applying security patches and the like - its not a big deal, I enjoy it. In short - you might not see me a lot posting (for my sanity as it's addictive (same on all my social media)) but I certainly do a lot behind the scenes. I can't control my mortality and so there's always that - but other than that, I'm damn committed to this site as I am committed to my commercial site watchfix.com which supports this site. I have no interest in shutting down, selling or otherwise changing this sites format. Having said that, if anyone wants to consider taking on moderation tasks to help (in particular, making sure people post in the correct place and moderating new members posts) that would be very helpful. (Only members who have been active for more than a year please). Finally, thanks very much for your support and kind words - I truly appreciate that. This forum has to be one of the friendliest I am part of - a massive refreshment after reading some of the Facebook groups I'm part of - except mine FB group - that's also great with great people 😄😉
    • Demagnetize it first and the tools you are using. Get yourself a tin of  Ronsonol lighter fluid. A small jar with a screw on lid. Put the balance in that for a few minutes, get some tissue paper put the balance on that then dry with you bench blower, oil both staff pivots and put it back in the movement. This is what I always used to do never had any problems. I have tried one dip and it was rubbish a waste of money. Ronsonol is very friendly to shellac so no worries there.
    • Thats not the issue Sam, the forum is very popular and well known among in the watch world. The issue is anything can change at any time, my life and anyone else's could be changed dramatically in an instant, mine just has which partly prompted the start of the this thread.
    • Thanks for your feedback guys. I gave the watch (what I consider to be) a full wind and will check the power reserve. I think the last time I tried, it ran for at least 48 hours so this will take a while. As the watch IS running I think the arbor IS attached to the main spring. I was suspecting that maybe the main spring is slipping inside the barrel much like it would in an automatic watch.
