Hello,

Just a little background on me:

My Great-grandfather worked at the Dueber-Hampden watch works in Canton Ohio, USA, and went to Moscow to help start First Moscow Watch Factory. I started collecting as a way to keep occupied since being laid off work. that was seven years ago! Fortunately I have been able to adjust to perhaps being 'semi-retired'. I have acquired many watches, both buying and selling on the bay, local 'boot' sales, estates and charity auctions, where ever I can find something unique. Most people know very little about watches, what makes them more sought after and are content to reach for their phones when they are asked 'what time is it'?. I guess I'm old fashioned, I enjoy seeing a watch made with precision/skill be made useful and valuable again. I always wonder who may have owned this before me?! I hope to make new acquaintances through this forum, perhaps share tips or tricks on some favorite models. Regards, Dave

Welcome to the forum, Dave - and thanks for a fascinating bit of personal history. I had a lovely Hampden curvex-style tank watch some time ago, and it was very nice indeed. If I remember correctly, Dueber made cases as well.

      Yes, there are a lot of shapes and all of them are used in different cases. The one in Waltham A11 is one of the most spreaded and is what I have shown in the beginning. Of course, the radius of the final curve will depend on the distance between the hole in the stone and the regulator pins on the cock

      I agree, it's getting harder and harder to find anything that meets the brief other than complete junk, or fake/frankenwatches. I would be in favor of raising the limit so people can continue to enjoy the challenge of resurrecting these low cost watches to their former glory and allowing the watchmaker the ability of practicing new skills without the worry of breaking the bank if all doesn't go to plan. Now all we need to do is settle on a value - maybe base the value on a standard currency so we are all playing by the same rules ($, £, €...?) Unless anyone minds I could start a poll and we could all vote on currency and value... let me know!

      Same for me, but this is the first time I use the Bestfit. I understand that, for a 17-3/4 caliber, I have to consult page 150, but I can't find any resemblance. Thank you for all your research. I learn a little more each time I use this forum 😀

      So it works out to nearly $8 per watch for me if I want to get on board. And I can find nothing in Australia that fits inside the the allowance.
