Sweeping Second Pinion Omega Caliber 601

Question on the sweeping second pinion on an omega caliber 601. The watch is running really slow, my timing machine shows like in the -600 range. I noticed that the end of the sweeping second pinion that is facing towards the dial is bent just a little bit. When I observe the second hand going around it doesn't stop or studder, it actually runs very smoothly. Could this bend happen to be causing that extreme slowness? Also note that when I tested the movement I didn't have the dial or hands on. I'm just stumped as to why it is giving me this reading. I have checked everything, cleaned it, oiled it, added a new mainspring and it is still reading the same with all of that done.

Have you checked the tension spring. Could it be that you placed it wrong . Or that it's bent? Been there done that myself . Remove it and check if the movement picks up speed . And no oil on the tension spring

Tension spring is fine and no oil on it.

Hairspring? Right mainspring? Turned the mainspring the wrong way? .

Remove the seconds pinion and check again....if it still runs poorly a clean and new mainspring is in order.

The pinion may be difficult (and pricey!) to source but if the seconds hand moves around the dial without hitting the other hands then let it be. Attempts to straighten it will probably end up breaking the tip.

In what position were you timing the watch? When you put the watch on the timing machine it's not adequate to only having one position. The timing machine can indicate all sorts of faults so should be timed dial-up and dial down and at least one pendant position I usually do it all for just because.

 

It'd be really nice if you're timing machine indicated amplitude.

 

Then quoting for your message above it appears to be the problem existed before you did all these wonderful things? What's the history of the watch in other words were you wearing the watch in one day it suddenly slow did you purchase the watch from eBay and it was defective when you got it a little bit a history would be helpful. Then when the old mainspring came out how did it look?

 

Then it would be nice to have a close-up picture the balance wheel regulator the balance bridge etc..
