Good day everyone - I have an issue with my sekonda 2614.2H. I am trying to regulate it, but I can't get it below +300 s/d. I have the adjustment arm as far as I can, but still +300 s/d.

I've demagmetized it several times and checked the coils and they appear to be clean and not touching and concentric and not wanting to stick together. When watching it run the coils seem to breath nicely and not stick and are centred well, see pictures:

I'm probably missing something obvious - any help advice is appreciated

The line under the amplitude reading is disjointed, I've tried the timegrapher charts but I don't know what that means.

When the graphical display reaches the other side it wraps around and continues over again. They gap is the gap between the old versus the new basically.

Then just because I like to see other pictures there's a link below for your watch

Then the pictures are showing what I want to see. You're running fast even though the regulators on slow I wonder if they hairspring is touching anything it's not supposed to. This is where a angle shot would be nice like aimed at the regulator so we can see if the inner coil of the hairspring is may be bumping on the backside of the regulator the same as where the stud is you want to make sure they're far enough away and not touching. I just can't tell what the pictures

then what happens if you rotate the microphone to a crown down position just because I'm curious

I think your lift angle might be wrong matey, my 2609 ha is 42° check this setting then start again with your readings.

Watchguy does list the 2614 as 51 ° so you are pretty close.

Have you verified the timing manually as well ?

Is the mainspring the correct one, too strong that will cause problems with time keeping.

Novice here, could you please elaborate? I can't imagine how a stronger mainspring could have such a drastic effect on rate. That's assuming the balance isn't knocking though.

Watching it run isn't good enough.

To enhance your spotting- ablity , take a video of its running, watch it in slow-mo , most likely its intermitent sticking.

Good luck

I replaced the same mainspring, so I  assumed it was the correct one (hmmm assume = ass out of you and me). But this was a non-runner so I can't be sure if it was causing the same issue before I worked on it, worth looking at.

    • It started well. Got the clip off, cleaned in B-dip, bit of grease, then ping 😫. Lost the clip trying to refit it.    I'll get a replacement from eBay.
    • I used Google Lens on the pic and it suggested "motorcyle belt punch". And googling pics of that does show very similar tools. The end on mine is sharp, and does look suitable for punching holes in leather. I've no idea what belts on motorcyles would need piercing? The hole is about 1/4", so I cannot see a use in watchmaking. So, why have we both found one in a collection of watchmaking tools?
    • You often see the term used on old watch part boxes.  Staffs for bracelet watches, timing washers for bracelet wstches etc.
    • The Boro has changed quite a lot over the last 20 years, and not for the better. I actually moved out of the town 15 years ago to a small village not far away. Thanks for the pdf! Looks a great read. I'll get it printed today and put it on my work bench!
    • Not having all the fancy equipment, this is a way I came up with. I never said it was the best, the most ideal or the safest way. Working on balances is always a delicate task whereby full concentration & common sense should prevail. I was well aware of the "dangers" / short comings involved, hence my "warnings", as quoted above. The balance wheel of the Omega was nice true, flat and one could clearly see how much gap there was left before the grinding wheel would touch the balance wheel. I stopped when the generously applied diamond paste started to touch the rim of the balance wheel, which turned out to be with a seat thickness left of 0.1mm. Tapping the remainder of the staff out went easy and flawless. My idea of penning this article was to show/share a way which, in my case, perfectly succeeded. If deemed to risky, or if the balance wheel is not true or has a wobble, other methods have to be followed.
