Omega Seamaster Chrono Pusher

Recommended Posts

A friend has given me his Omega Seamaster Chrono case no 176.007 cal 1040 to have a look at .

One of the crono buttons has broken off and will need replacing as the button is missing.

I have looked at Marks video on replacing the pusher in the Omega chronostop thread which looks the same although Mark did a Breitling.

My question is I see Cousins do a Horotec tool for chrono pushers and pendant tubes , does anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative and also whether they would do the job on the Seamaster and if they would do Rolex pendant tubes (looking at doing my Oyster date maybe)?

Bit reluctant to shell out £144 plus vat etc if its no good.

Mark mentions in the vid about using pliers but as it's not my watch I'd rather use the right tool , if it was mine i'd probably have a go.

Thanks Andy

I don't personally like the Horotec set as the ends are quite brittle and can break easily.

These are the ones I use:

https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/chronograph-pusher-tube-fitting-removing

Still quite pricey, but I reckon they are better quality.

I can't be certain but it may be the blue one you need, but please double check the size you need before you order one in case I am wrong.

Update on this i've managed to purchase it off the owner , when he found out the price of the parts , so have ordered the bits for myself and the tool Mark recommended ,It's been running and working a treat on the watch winder results are good on the timegrapher so hopefully with a new pusher crystal and caseback seal i will have got myself a keeper :-)

The case has been knocked about a bit but it does date to 1972

Hey Andyclient, I have a Omega Chronostop Genéve with the same missing pusher button. What parts did you order for that - specifically, what pusher button? Thanks!

I got it from Cousins mine was ref:086st0005 which is the complete pusher assembly you will need to put in your case number to be sure though as they might not be the same.

Right before i posted i thought i would check as i have a chrono stop and they are different but Cousins still stock them.

My chronostop case is ref no145.009 which has a smaller pusher than the seamaster , Cousins part no 086ST0002 £42.75 plus vat plus p&p

First you need to find out which reference the watch has ? That stands on the inside of the caseback . It looks to be the same as the OP ?

    • Hi everyone, Just joined the group in the hope that somebody here may be able to help me.   I've been hunting high and low to find a split stem  male winder caliber 795 for an Elgin 27 ladies auto watch and have got nowhere. I was wondering if another cal winder could work e.g. 794.   It was a birthday present for my wife and the first time I used the winder it broke. Desperate to try anything that would work.   Hope you can suggest something.   Kind regards    Keith Moody
    • I have a taig, which is the cheaper version of a sherline. I also made a tailstock runner. Its best to turn it between centers to get it concentric. As far as a set screw, I would go with a different approach, as any lateral input on the drill bit will shift it slightly and move it out of center. The best option is to turn a bunch of brass sockets for all the bits you have, turn a taper on the end that will go into the tailstock runner, and shellac the drill bit in the socket. Since you already have experience making a runner, you can make another one with an internal taper that matches the external taper you put on the brass sockets.
    • Hello and welcome from Leeds, England.
    • Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I’ve been a way from all web forums for a long time so it may take me awhile to get back in the swing of things.    Names Rick, I’m from Lebanon ,VA deep in the mountains of SWVA. Our little slice of heaven has been home for me since 2004. I’m was medically retired as a Master Auto/Diesel Mechanic after 29.5 years.     I’m an Army artillery veteran and have spent my lifetime working with my hands and fixing things.    Early in 2024 I took an interest in watchmaking and learning to repair & restore pocket watches. I went crazy 🤪 buying up all sorts of tools, dozens of pocket watches and more than a few wristwatches from the war eras.  Somewhere in that process I decided I needed buy a staking set, that’s where my story took a left turn at Albuquerque 🤣.    I bought one small K&D round based set with the glass dome.  It was in horrible shape and missing a whole bunch of stakes and stumps. This led to me to buying a “few” more which allowed me to completely fill the original set and even another small K&D starter set. After showing the finished product to some guys in the industry they mentioned I should start restoring them.    That’s where I’m at now. Things have completely taken off and I never expected this level of success. It was just a hobby for an old man to stay busy and now it’s taken on a life of its own in some respects.    I joined this site back in July while searching for answers about K&D history and catalogs and immediately found discussions about the Weebly site and that was a game changer for me.  Without that site I would not have had the successes I have had.    Eventually I’ll get back to watchmaking and learning all I can about that, but for now I’m having lots of fun and keeping my hands and mind working, trying to keep myself busy and work within my physical and medical restraints. I’m always learning new things and look forward to sharing what I learn here and helping where I can.    Thanks for having me !
    • I’ve got a few errands to run this morning, but when I get back I’ll grab you some measurements of one of these here. It’s takes just a second to pop them out of the base. I do have extras so if you want one I’ll send it to ya, but either way I’ll grab some measurements for you. I haven’t set up my re-plating station yet, but even then some of these anvils are so damaged that they wouldn’t be worth trying to plate, so I probably have 6-7 extras.     The center hole is offset and the back side has a bevel ground into it where it touches the anvil front. I’m assuming this is to make sure you install it so the offset hole to catch the inverted stake is in the correct position.  I took some random photos to try and show the details. As long as you don’t have a little giant anvil it’s offset.  The little giant ones appear to be dead center.
