I have the rubber ball and the 3 finger dish type of remover but it wouldn't budge. I did hold the compass legs right down near the points so they are ok. Never come across this type of caseback before. Also never come across a Rotary with an automatic movement which doesn't say so on the dial....

Solved it!!!!! A post on the underside of the operating lever return was sitting on the wrong side of the spring. Due to the design it worked a bit, but not properly. Refitted the lever while retracting the spring and now it does what it should! I think you learn more if you solve a problem yourself rather than being told the answer. Now it's back in the wash, and see if I can get this thing up and running!
