Hi folks,

I've enjoyed taking things apart ever since I was a kid. As an adult, I hope that I'll be able to put them back together properly! 

I own several watches and want to learn to do basic maintenance on my own, whenever possible. I hope my questions won't seem too basic.

My first project is replacing my beloved Timex TX 700 series battery. There's a gray plastic shield covering the battery that I don't know how to (gently) remove.

Hi welcome to the forum.  This is one for JerseyMo the Timex king.  I Think its just a clip on to secure the coin cell

I tried to lift/release it but couldn't make it work, and I don't want to risk using too much force.

By "Bay Area" I assume you mean SF Bay Area?  'Cuz there are others.  :-)

@AlamedaMike Yes, the SF one. Didn't mean to sound Silicon-centric. 

Also noteworthy, @JerseyMo helped me figure out the battery clip in my Timex. Now I'm shopping for a new strap to refresh the look. 

As an aside, do you folks change out the rubber gaskets in your watches? If so, how often? The one in my Timex looked fine and it's less than 10 years old.
