  2. I use mainly re-engineered Chinese tools. Filing, stoning and heat treatment as necessary. Drill steel makes good screwdriver tips. Tweezers of most makes need specific attention. Just my way of doing things, no rip off costs and they work very well indeed for an old Jobber Fixer like me. Just spend a little time on them to get them right. Regards, Mike. PS. (not everyone will agree)

  3. Quick update: I received an email today to say I have made it to the acceptance stage, which means attending the school in Manchester for the assessments mentioned before and have a good look around the school of course. That's going to be at the start of September. Cheers.

  4. Hi JJW, you should really introduce yourself first before asking questions. It is impossible to say what the issue is until the movement has been removed from the movement and inspected. If it runs but stops then almost certainly it needs a strip down and service. During this process the fault (if any) will be found.

  5. I would say YES ... the only difference being the "weishi" brand printed on one of the items, just to mimic "witschi" brand. If you fell to take your chance about import taxes on AliExpress you can get that item much cheaper here http://s.aliexpress.com/nYJjyqI7?fromSns=Copy to Clipboard Envoyé de mon Moto G (5) Plus en utilisant Tapatalk

  6. Thanks for everyone's help, especially oldhippy. I managed to get it all back together again. Manipulated the balance spring back into some kind of spring shape, and it's running very nice now. Most important, I learnt a lot for the next one.

  7. Not that I've tried much but, believe it or not, I have never won a vintage Timex Minnie Mouse watch. Now the other day I spot NOS dials being sold with a buy it now option. I place an offer and about 10 minutes latter it gets accepted. So I look around the bench for a case and sure enough there is the correct case from a 1972 Mercury I just took the movement out of for another project. The next issue is now I need a working #24 non sweep movement. That I already know I don't have any NOS in spares and try my luck in the parts movement bind. Yes, two in there but one has a wobbling balance and the other is only missing the set lever. After a service and a few days of observation it looks good to now. For a final touch I install a genuine Timex deployment band.
