  1. Finishing the staff and riveting on the balanceUsing the Jacot, trimmed a pivot down and burnished themLower pivot was still to wide so put it back in the lathe to stone it down to size.Aligned the Hairspring and punched it on.It was complete and completed the install. Watch is currently running down with the new balance. Will completely disassemble and clean and oil and reassemble. DONE:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  2. I am making a new balance staff for an 18S Waltham. I think the balance is friction fit, however, my first cut 1.45mm was a bit too much and the balance fits but is not tight enough. I decided to leave a little lip so I can rivet it on as well (let's see how that goes:). I then cut the hairspring part at 0.9mm and the pivot at 0.12mm; cut down to 0.2 and then reduced using a stone. I had to move the Steel Rod out as I had worked my way in too far with a failed first cut on the balance part. I then cut the roller table side and angled the largest diameter. Tonight I cut the lower pivot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  3. Im using this one and it seems to work fine, got it from cousinsuk. If you want a vintage one make sure that bit which catch cannon pinion is intact, sometimes its damaged and doesnt work well (it has to close evenly after lever is pressed). Its one of the safest tools for removing cannon pinions.

  5. I've a penchant for these small Swiss machine tools. This 3 of 4 Schaublin 70's (one is a basket case in need of reconditioning which will be an interesting project) and I just finished painting this one. #2 has also just finished being painted and #1 didn't need it (will try to ad photos at some point). I'll probably scale back to two, I'm in deep with this old iron disease. I thought you guys would get a kick out of it. I didn't bother painting the drive and motor, getting tired of painting. Paint is PPG line 7 enamel, RAL 7031 applied with an airbrush

  6. Another possibility could be to place a tiny bit of plastic around the cannon to make the tool grip happily. I like tools like anybody else but my first objective is to get the job done perfectly, then whatever I use for is secondary to me.

  7. Can't you use a pin vise. Hard to image that a part so small is so tight.

  8. If you watch the Hamilton factory movie on YT there is a sequence where the big mass of dough made fresh every day is shown.
