  3. This is definitely the smallest watch I've worked on so far, a Rotary 9Kt gold ladies ring watch. I have not done a walkthrough as it is just a basic manual wind movement and these types have been well covered in the past. It was not running when I received it, but luckily it just needed a good clean and oil and all was well. It is now holding +9 seconds per day which is more than good enough for a novelty watch.

  5. Did you know the very early cuckoo clocks were spring driven fusee type and never went on the walls, they would stand on a flat surface. It was quite some time before the weight driven ones came along. I used to specialise in antique clocks and I have restored hundreds of Longcase clocks (grandfather clocks) and antique watches.

  7. A set of good tweezers is a must when handling delicate parts..eg hairsprings, inca-springs.. You can try all the tricks above (and do help..!) but if you're tweezers are still not up to the mark you will still have problems. After hitting the 'buy' button on that high end tweezer you may feel some regret/doubt but once you try them the difference is like night and day. Anil

  8. Skills can be learnt.. sometimes the hard way! What you cannot learn is persistence and patience which is very neccessary in this hobby/trade and is something nobody can teach you and no amount of money can buy. You seem to have it in spades so you're well on your way to success! Anil

  12. Hi Stroppy, it's good having you actively on board and I'm sure you will enjoy it here. Like you I have too many watches to mention, the majority of which I must get around to servicing!
