Merry Christmas & happy New year from me. Lets hope we all have a wonderful 2016. PPS I did giggle to myself. Popped into one of my neighbours last night for the usual happy Xmas stuff & left with two clocks for repair. :D :D2 points

Nimi, you can try this. I've done some experiments on this today. Push the beat corrector all the way to the side of the balance cock. Then stop the balance wheel. A. Slowly push the balance wheel anti-clockwise but stop right before it swing. B. The slowly push the beat corrector anti-clockwise until the balance wheel starts to swing. That position is within 0-5 beat error in my experiments. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

So for putting a watch in beat at least what you're supposed to see I've attached some images. There's a drawing showing what you're trying to achieve pallet fork between the banking pins. Then images from other watches where you can see the pallet fork and the banking pins. As far as seeing the roller jewel that is almost impossible except in the one photograph which has no hairspring. The roller jewel is so close to the center the of balance the hairspring covers it up normally unless you can look in a sideways angle your almost never going to see it. Then for Seiko watches the problem is there just isn't enough space to look in. Then there's a picture of the movement of the 7S26. Which is quite common with a lot of the Seiko's there just isn't any room to look. Then there's the other problem there's nothing to look at there is no banking pins. On a lot of modern watches banking pins have been replaced either with the pallet fork bridge machined to serve the purpose of banking pins or the main plate. So as you can see from the picture of the balance wheel removed and just the fork there is no way to visually see this at all from any angle. This is where you absolutely have to have a timing machine.1 point

Well it whas almost a "plugNplay" with the Ubuntuinstallation. The computer is an ACER Aspire 5732Z laptop. I normally use it for surfing on the web, building a database over my electronic components with LibreOffice Base, I have some spreadsheets in LibreOfficeCalc and my e-mailacounts in Thunderbird. I have recently installed Fritzing witch is a program to make electronic sketches <-> PCB-CAD <-> Breadboard drawings. I don't have got it to work my way yet but..... Then I have to install wine so I can run "Watchoscope" ! Yesterday I ordered the missing components for the amplifier and when that is up and running together with the microphone I will download and test the Watchoscope. It looks just perfect for my workbench :-) // Mats1 point

Hi rogart, It must very well have been round originally and taken the square shape of the case...I've seen other watches, being square, using a round gasket that "becomes" square once you install it. I myself, not having square gaskets, have fitted square cases with round ones. Not a problem. I hope it helps, Cheers, Bob1 point

This is mine - it's a secretaire that's reasonably high. I sit on a drummer's stool which goes reasonably low. Nevertheless, my neck is screaming at me for a better solution...1 point

Why Ishima! I thought no one had to work anymore! Just kidding! :) I'm in the same boat as far as a home set up is concerned. I make do with a little "portable" cheapo bench (actually 2, one stacked on top of the other) but honestly, as long as it fits your needs -- and it is nice to have a good, satisfying bench, don't get me wrong -- it is OK. I'm surprised with the creative ways of many of our members using modules like IKEA, etc to come up with such comfortable and elegant set ups. It is also in my plans when I have a break from work to do the same! Cheers, Bob1 point

Some of these set ups look really great. I'm quite envious. And here I am to yet to even get a basic work bench set up at home. Way too busy when at work, doing work on customers' quartz watches to do any mechanical practice that I'd like to, but being on the clock (if you'll excuse the expression) I can't very much complain that I have to work.1 point
