  1. Winders are only useful for watches that have a lot of complications...moon phase, leap year. They usually cost a bomb so the price of a high-end winder is negligable. What I usually do is have my man give my perpetual calenders a few shakes after he brings my breakfast in bed....but before he lays out my clothes for the day. Note: the toilet seat warming is left to Hector as I prefer his ..er.. temperature.. more to my liking. Anil

  2. The Sekonda and the Slava movement all have that problem .It's the setting lever that jumps off . Sorry to say but you have to remove the dial and reset the lever and spring . The only way to make it not happen is to press down on the setting lever button when you put back the stem . i have work on lots of sekonda end Slava movements . They are easy to service put that is a problem .

  4. Hi Chris, From what you describe is seems that the set lever has jumped out of its groove in the clutch wheel. To fix this the correct way will require you to..... 1. Remove stem 2. Remove movement from case. 3. Remove hands 4. Remove dial 5. Remove day and date wheels if fitted. 5. Remove set lever bridge 6. get the set lever back in the clutch wheel groove assemble in the reverse order. The not so correct way would be to remove the barrel bridge and try to get the set lever back in its groove.. understand that the lever is on the side away from you. Easier on some movements than others. A delicate touch is required because if you dislodge the set lever spring you're back where you started and need to get the dial off. Pics of the movement would help. Anil

  5. The watch in the picture is not a quartz watch it is a ESA 9154 Balance wheel driven by a transistor. The watch runs at 28,800bph amplitude and beat error don't apply. at least as far as the timing machine is concerned. You can find out more about their history at the link below. http://electric-watches.co.uk/movement-types/transistorised/

  7. In case anyone is interested in the finished watch. I got the set lever screw in I needed Saturday. So I cleaned it and put it back together- twice. Got confused a bit and put dang set lever screw in backwards and didn't notice until I started to attach set lever. Just took it off my timing machine and it was running about +3 sec. I am attaching two more pictures, one of the second counter running and one where it's reset. I'm going to tell my son-in-law that I'll let him double his money on the watch real quick if he wants.

  8. Was reassembling the keyless works on a Waltham Ruby movement, and it has a c spring that can be a bit of a pain to re-install, it took off, so the search began, the watchmakers desk was thoroughly checked, and the floor was gone over, finally ready to concede defeat, I started going through my parts movements looking for a replacement, so I was looking into the drawer I noticed my shirt pocket, when I wondered, could it have, so I checked my shirt pocket and there it was. Well I have learned my lesson, when I get a spring that has previously tried to escape the work area, I like to use a clear plastic large ziplok bag, I cut a hole just big enough for my left hand in the bottom and reseal the zip part around my right, try keep the movement in the center of it during the installation, it has saved me plenty of time doing grid searches. Also it is a safe place to practice spring installation, I would always try to pick the end of the spring I was installing, instead I found if I used the tweezers as a pusher and pushed the end it was so much easier!
