  1. In no way I intend to steal the job of our Mark, from whom I only can get inspiration (both in making the videos and in servicing the watches), but I started some time ago documenting (silently) my services in a series of videos. all watches are mine to either keep or resell on the popular online platforms, funding in this way the purchase of more expensice, better mechanical watches. But that is another story... With this post I would like to introduce a series of parts of a video I made servicing a Seiko 7T32 quartz movement last week, and for the first time talking about it live (btw, I hate my voice...) The video was prompted from some friends on another forum which were wondering if it was worthwile servicing this particular movement, since it is all in plastic (well, almost all). The thing is that I like tinketing with this movement, even if it is deemd by experts as a waste of time, since it is usually swapped for a new one when it brakes down. I am though of the opinion that this particular series of quartz chronographs deserves a proper service, also considering that it is not in production anymore, and you cannot find them easily anymore at decent prices. Enough said, here the series of videos (6 parts in total) Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: Part 4: Part 5: Part 6: There will be a part 7, in which I deal with the dial side of the movement, but it is still in the works. Hope you enjoy the videos, and any comment / criticism is very well welcome. George

  2. Just an update, thanks to noirrac1j I got the KIF Satellor spring I needed for this watch. Just so that it is on the internet, indexed and searchable for all time: The Favre-Leuba 253 Movement takes a KIF 4-3 Satellor spring for the top balance jewel. Replacing this spring was super easy thanks to the clingwrap method.

  3. This all brings me to the question of what is good or bad taste, be it fashion, motorcycles, cars, watches, err stuff in general - even wall clocks. It seem that all things (in general) improve with age: Year 1: Cutting edge. "I really want that its the height of fashion" Year 2: So last year. "Not my thing anymore" Year 10: Old tech. "What was I thinking" Year 20: Take it down the dump/recycling centre. "Did I really have taste that bad" Year 30: Keep it might be worth something soon. "I used to have one of those" Year 50: Vintage, flog it on fleabay. "I wish I had one of those" Year 100: Antique, flog it at Sotherby's and retire on the proceeds. "I really want that and I am willing to mortgage everything, sell the wife, kids, cat & dog into slavery just to own it" 2-20 year old wall clock? Probably best avoided but should improve with age. No shame in that.

  7. That's what it sounds like. Some jump every two seconds when going flat - others every four seconds.

  8. The 4 second ticks is the 955 EOL (End Of Life) indicator. The seconds hand jumps every 4 seconds to indicate a low power state. You need a new battery.

  9. What they don't realize is that the chinese brands will simply take over the market. There is demand, there will be a supplier. They are shooting themselves in the foot.
