  1. This can actually be a problem. Watch collectors generally want to have Speedmasters that are totaly original, this includes hands and dials that probably will be changed. If it was me, and I have one, I would send it to a top class repairer who will service it and only replace movement parts if required. If you keep the original patina, your watch will command more money by true Speedmaster collectors.

  2. Also factor in that there were way more watchmakers about, they were quick and (mostly) good. but their prices had to be super-competitive so it wouldn't have been an expensive proposition to repair a modestly priced watch.

  3. Thanks to all who replied. I have a spare movement on the way (from ebay/India $17 with free shipping), U will use the escape wheel from it. I will try to push the jewel back into position but if that doesn't work I'll use the base plate from the spare watch.

  4. Great advice from Geo. An alternative may be AS bumper springs. On your Tissot 31-1 they look similar to the AS 1302 or 1191 (which a cursory look at Cousins seems to show they are available and listed as "banking stop springs").

  5. I would be very urprised if bumper springs from the 350 series of Omegas don't fit. I'm pretty sure the Tissot you have is a re-badged Omega. It's well worth. Taking the gamble Roger, and even if it doesn't fit, buy a spring of the guage and diameter and make one. All they are are a compression spring with the first coil bent at 90 degrees to the coil. PS. I love these movements!

  10. Where you from Doug I would look for a good watchmaker that service Omega. Around where you live. Omega has changed the policy recently. So not all watchmakers will or can do a service on a speedmaster day date. At least have a watchmaker have a look at it and run it on a timegrapher to see how it runs.

  12. If you folks get tired of me posting my watches, just let me know! I wasn't sure how a white dial would look as a pilot style watch. I got really lucky with the Printing of this dial. It turned out very clean with nice, sharp edges.. BTW, I test all my watches with the same strap...no, I didn't buy hundreds of them!

  13. I have several favourites, for different reasons. My most treasured pocket watch is my Hamilton 992B. My most treasured wristwatch movement is my Hamilton Intra-matic.
