Weird balance cap jewel - Lorsa cal P75

Recommended Posts

Hey gang. First time poster. I'm a newbie and learning to clean and oil watches. I'm currently working on a Lorsa P75 movement (which I found with an Elgin dial in a German case). I'm stuck trying to remove the balance cap jewels. I've tried messing with it but can't figure it out. Is it permanent? Do I bend the tabs? Is there some other trick?

Thanks for your sage advice.

Hi, welcome.

Tabs break easy so do not lift to extreams and there is no need to open tabs to extreme, cabs can be taken out( once free) through half way lifted tabs.

Insert a longer & thinner pivot( if you got old balances wih one broken pivot)  through the jewel hole, like balance pivot normally is when watch running, push the cab loose.

Once you take the cabs off, you would want to clean the jewel as best as you can. This design was not good for frequent cab removal.

Regards

Thanks all. My thoughts exactly: bend the tabs ... what could possibly go wrong?? lol

Hmmm, now the dilemma. Sounds like ultrasonic cleaning and auto oiler is safest approach. Unfortunately, I have neither ultrasonic cleaner nor auto oiler. Ugh.

Slightly bending tabs and pushing with longer pivot sounds decent. But I just started and don't have a broken balance yet.

Or I can leave it, trying to oil it from the other side, but I bet that doesn't work well.

Damn the torpedoes ... I'll try lifting the tabs slowly and see if I can get an edge under the cap.
