The advantage of taking up this hobby as one's eyesight has already started to deteriorate is that there is always something bewteen my eyes and what I'm doing. By the way, I love my optivisor, if you are thinking of one of those

Yes, flip up optivisor. Not sure where to get one now maplins has stopped listing them.

I have a Henry hoover, I take the dust bag out and hoover up. No searching through dust and rubbish the part is sitting there at the bottom of the dust bowl.

I lost an end jewel once and I wondered why everything looked kind of pink when I looked through my loupe. The jewel had enough oil on it to get stuck on my eye-piece; I got lucky that time.

I used the vacuum method at length trying to find a rare plate screw. I never found it. Then a couple of weeks later I was sitting at my bench in bare feet and I felt something under my foot. It was the plate screw. So, maybe walking around your shop in bare feet might work too.
