Cheers Mates...

One of my 6105-8110 would not start while I did the usual shake, to get them going. And I started to take it apart.

And when I removed the winding work, I could see this, see photoes. And I have following question:

1. The gear wheel have some marks on the side towards the watch, should I do somthing about that? (Photo 1)

2. Where should those grapples intervene into the gear wheel ? (Photo 2)

Woooahhh that is a mess mate, everything is ok but it desperately needs a proper clean and service, there is so much dried grease on them parts alone so think what the rest of the movement might be like, if your handy yourself it's time to get working, if your not it's time to find a watchsmith and part with some of your hard earned!!

Buy the way, the two claw things, they are called pawls, they sit either side of the small wheel that sits on top of the mainspring barrel, it's seikos wonderfully simple Auto Wind system that I really love.

That needs a good clean. Probably the rest of the watch also. There should be no oil or grease on the top of the jewel for the pawl finger. It goes straight into the jewel for the centre chronograph wheel.

No problem I do the service myself, i have Clean this already..... 

So you mean the pawels claws skall be like on the last photo?

Hi arkobugg,

The pawls should be chisel-shaped at the tip, similarly the teeth on the reduction gear need to be well defined/sharp.

On most watches you don't see wear here but on a few I've come across the parts are well rounded. I believe that this is because someone wound the watch by turning the screw on the barrel and thereby forcing the reduction wheel around.

This is great guys!! Thanks a lot for all help!! Its always a pleasure asking questions in this forum, knowing that you always get plenty help. There is one more question for this jobb, the winding work it fastened with three screws. When I opened the watch, there was one missing. Where can I get this one, anyone have an extra???

Well if you're going to make a hobby of this the best thing would be to buy a few movements off the internet to practice... this will give you a ready stock of screws etc. Perhaps someone in Scandinavia can help?

One  thing to check.. is the screw somewhere loose in the movement? This is common and will eventually cause problems. Get the movement out of the case and try to see if its in there somewhere.

You means get som extra 6105B movment to practis on? I think they are hard to find?  Or do you mean that screws are standardized on Seiko movments, so I can find similar on a another movment?

Then its fixed....found an screw from a Chinese movment I had, then cleaned all, and lubricated, got the pawl where they should be. screwed all togheter. And it runs like a dream... Thanks for all  help...

    • Since I've learned lots here I thought I'd share a tip I picked up elsewhere and put to the test... For that 6105/6309 bezel lume pip look I've punched a clear plastic bottle of water, sanded it for the frost effect, removed the (smaller) pip from a standard/cheap replacement bezel, drilled it out to 2.5mm and fitted it using a smaller punch - fresh lume to hold into place.  Pressing into place is a bit awkward but you soon get the hang of it, and the end result is pretty decent I'd say... The worst part probably being the drilling rather than the pip!      It started out like this: 
    • Ive asked this at a Seiko forum but I know there's plenty of experience here too...   As I have it the recently discovered servicing technique on these is that you stuff the crown full of gaskets and work it until the recessed washer pops, remove the washer, switch the gasket out, dish the washer and push it back into place, levelling out the washer in the process? First attempt did not go to plan... I tried using a plastic pusher to manipulate the gaskets in the crown... Wasn't strong enough and I was struggling to even get the gaskets in up until it broke.   Rethink consists of making/using actual tools: I don't have a staking set, so I've got the old man fashioning a metal pusher, essentially a 2.45mm OD tube with 1.6mm ID with a 6mm press the other end. Also got him on a dishing block/conical stake (sorry I'm terrible with terms) and a holder for the crown while I'm working on it...   I figure that's enough to do the process described above? Push with the metal pusher, dish the washer with the conical stake, press back in with wider flat press (drilled centre so it doesn't catch on the tap).    Plan is to stuff, press by hand and repeat? If that doesn't work by hand I've a drill press I could attach the pusher to for a little more leverage if needed. (Obviously I don't want to go too mad with that, and hopefully can avoid it altogether...)   Sounds like a plan? I'd welcome any advice here, since I really don't want to wreck a crown. Having replaced all the other seals though id really like to sort these too. I welcome any input/advice from those who have been there and done it... Thanks!
