Another Dx Acquired

well, i have a soft spot for these seiko DX watches - especially with the 6106 movement. i spotted this on fleabay last week but had second thoughts. the pictures were terrible, and as the story goes it made me wonder what was really under that crystal. i'm glad i took the leap. the dial is probably one of the best condition-wise that i have. it's just about perfect. that blue is very nice.

my real gripe about this watch  - and it's a bit surprising - is that there is no lume. i assumed that the indices were glow in the dark based on the way that they looked. yeah, it probably would have been a bit tacky on this kind of a watch, but hope springs eternal.

the other problem is that when i push the crown, the date always changes but the day is fifty fifty. i'm sure there's some grime in it somewhere.

the crystal looks to be very new, i did notice a blem in the crystal at the six o'clock position. it's in the pics. and the case still has that cool radial brushed look. quite remarkable for a 35 year old watch.

Hi Ramrod,

Sometimes you need to clean the underside of the crown before the quickset day works properly.. you'll be surprised at the amount of crap that accumulates over time.

Also Seikos from the early 70s sometimes only have quickset for the date.. for the day you have to wind it thru.. nit sure which models specifically but this may be the case here.

Anil

ps... I think the stretch band does nothing for the watch... but thats just me!

this 6106 has both day and date quickset, so it must be some grunge interfering with the mechanism. the 6619's (among others) had date quickset only and you had to do the wind and back thing to change the day......and, yes, i am in agreement with you and i'mnot a fan of stretch bands, but this is the way it came to me and i'm just leaving it that way 1) so i can at least wear it and, 2) i haven't decided what kind of a strap i want to built for it.

interestingly, i have several of the stretch bands on my older dress watches (again, they were sent that way) and i find myself wearing them like that. it has the retro look, like a real 60's thing going on.
