Hello! New to watch repair

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

The website suggested I introduce myself so here I am. I've started to become interested in watch repair/servicing as a hobbyist. I am VERY early in to my 'career', but absolutely loving it so far. I've disassembled and reassembled a couple of cheap movements so far (most recently a Seagull ST36), and finding it very addictive.

I'm in my early 40s and a doctor by trade. UK based. I'm hoping to develop watch repair as a skill I take in to (hopefully early) retirement.

I've set myself a goal of finding a cheap old automatic in need of service and getting it to working order. I'll therefore need to learn cleaning and oiling.

Long term, if I continue to enjoy it, I wonder about a qualification such as from the British Horological Institute.

Happy to be a part of this community, and I'll probably be posting for advice here and there. Having said that, most questions I've thought of have already been asked before.

Hello from the U.S. Sam.

There is a LOT of information here, and really helpful folks.

You can just about find anything pretty much already covered by searching for a topic.

Tools, training, technique, etc.

Bust ask away if you need any help !

Cheers !
Randy

Is that quote from Aristotle? Or was it something you heard in a Bob Dylan song? 😉
